The Best WordPress Plugins For A Successful Blog

Best WordPress Plugins WordPress is like a gift from the “search engine gods”. It’s a blogging platform on which you can build incredible looking blogs that rank extremely well in the search engines. So if you’re reading this, I’m guessing you’re already running a WordPress blog. As if you’re not, what the heck are you doing here? LOL

Anyway, there are literally MILLIONS of WordPress blogs out there. The trouble is that less than a few percent of them receive any “real” traffic. Why? Well most webmasters know nothing about traffic generation, SEO or Internet Marketing in general. Apart from that, it’s because of a bad setup and a lack of plugins.

I honestly have no clue how to define a WordPress plugin. Explaining a WordPress plugin is way too technical for me. (I hate techy stuff, seriously) So, WordPress plugins are vital for a successful WP blog. They really can make a huge difference to your blog’s overall success. In fact, the impact they have can be astronomical. The thing is, there’s a WordPress plugin for absolutely everything. From traffic generation to content management. From all kinds of crazy SEO plugins to automatic content generation! You can code a WP plugin to do just about anything.

Anyway, there are a couple of mandatory plugins you NEED to have installed. Then there are other “premium” or paid plugins that can help. So I’m going to provide you with my list of the best WordPress plugins that I think, you just need:

(note, linking isn’t working so the link for each plugin is above each title)

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/

1. All In One SEO Pack:

The All In One SEO Pack really is THEE ultimate all in one SEO plugin. It will allow you to control your on page SEO. It’s one of the most famous WP plugins and best of all, it’s completely free. Trust me when I say this: You NEED this plugin!

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/

2. Google XML Sitemaps

Now thing is pretty cool. It will build your website an xml sitemap in less than 60 seconds. Sitemap’s are used for SEO purposes. Basically just to help Google better index your site. It also sends a notification (like a ping) to the search engines every time you post a new piece of content. Very useful plugin, it’s also mandatory.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-super-cache/

3. WP Super Cache

This plugin is high up on my list for one reason. It makes your site load much faster! What it does is store a static version of your site making it use way less CPU…. Resulting in really fast load times! Huge help for your overall site’s success. (people hate waiting for pages to load)

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/seo-automatic-links/

4. SEO Smart Links

SEO Smart Links is another really cool, helpful and effective SEO WordPress plugin. It helps with onpage SEO like most WP SEO plugins and it’s for internal linking. The plugin will automatically link keywords to other pages on your site. This builds up page rank throughout your entire site. It also allows you to enter a custom set of keywords and URL’s. So whenever one of the keywords is found within a post or page, it will link it your desired URL. Huge SEO benefits, great plugin!

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/seo-image/

5. SEO Friendly Images

Whether or not you know, images can be a huge source of traffic! Yeah, I actually rake in a couple thousands visitors every month from Google Images! This cool little plugin will help you optimize your images so they’ll rank well in the Google Image search. Again, really is a mandatory plugin.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/seo-image/

6. Sexy Bookmarks

Again, a very helpful plugin that has a couple of uses. It will display a little bookmarking tab kind of thing below every post. It will allow your readers to share your content on social network/bookmarking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Digg & StumbleUpon! Great to add a little socialness (made up word) to your site. It can also bring in some extra traffic too!

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/si-contact-form/

7. Fast Secure Contact Form

This little plugin is just really useful. It will allow you to create contact forms anywhere on your website. You can checkout my contact page to see an example. Just enter in which email address you’d like the messages to be sent to and whola, automated contact forms! Really useful, helps a lot! I get a ton of people contacting me through the form and best of all; I don’t have to give away my email address.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/lj-longtail-seo/

8.  LJ Longtail SEO

This plugin has a pretty weird name. It’s actually extremely useful and I never setup a blog without it. What it does is track incoming visitors and the keywords they used to find your blog. It then takes that information and places a link in your sidebar with the keyword as anchor text linking to the post or page the visitor came to. GREAT internal linking plugin!

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-db-backup/

9. WP DB Backup

I actually don’t use this plugin; I use a paid backup plugin you can find below. Thing is, I believe that WP DB Backup is more than capable of running your site’s backups. Backing up your site is vital! While it’s really unlikely to happen, your site could suddenly get hacked or destroyed! It’s unlikely to happen, but you can never be too careful.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/commentluv/

10. Comment Luv

Last on my list of free plugins is Comment Luv. This plugin basically encourages visitors to leave comments by offerings links to their last posts. Once installed, whenever a visitor posts a comment, they’ll get a link back to their last blog post. Really simple, but powerful plugin. (I noticed a large increase in activity (comment wise) after I installed this thing)

Premium Or Paid Plugins:

Well, there are a ton of paid plugins that can be really useful. Plugins for traffic generation, SEO and all kinds of stuff. I have no intention of making money from your plugin purchases, so I’m just going to name a couple of the best paid plugins I strongly suggest you invest in.

http://seopressor.com/

1. SEO Pressor

Yes, SEO Pressor, one of the most famous SEO plugins of all. Used by thousands, this thing will tell you exactly how to optimize your posts for search engine domination! SEO Pressor will give you a score out of 100 for your onpage optimization for whatever keyword you input. It will also provide you with a check list of things to “optimize”. It’s one of my favorite plugins that actually works.

http://pingbackoptimizer.com/

2. Pingback Optimizer

Great plugin, really helps me out! Especially if you’re an article marketer, you need this plugin. What it does is “collect” all of your blog’s pingbacks, creates rss feeds out of them and submits them to all the top rss aggregators. What this does is help to get your pingbacks indexed. (pingbacks are backlinks, other blogs linking to yours, you need them indexed) It really does the job and I’ve experienced an increase in traffic since I installed it.

http://pluginbuddy.com/purchase/backupbuddy/

3. Backup Buddy

As I mentioned before, I use a paid plugin for backing up my site on a regular basis. This beautifully designed WP plugin is perfect for backing up your entire site on a regular basis. You just name the time & place and it will backup your entire site and email it to you. Impressive, I know!

http://www.wordpresssiloplugin.com/

4. WP Silo SEO

I’m not even going to try and explain this plugin to you. It’s for SEO and for marketers who understand LSI. It will allow you to rank for a whole bunch of search terms without even trying to.

http://popupdomination.com

5. Popup Domination

As you should already know, list building is vital to a successful online business. Especially if you’re a marketer trying to sell something. Thing is… list building can be tough! Fortunately for us, Popup Domination can help boost opt in rates by 200%+. Really cool plugin, I even use it on this blog. Gives you a bunch of designs to choose from and it’s basically a popup opt in box. It’s just…. Effective!

So that’s pretty much my list of mandatory WordPress plugins I believe you absolutely NEED. If you’re serious about building a successful WordPress blog, you need to make the most of plugins. I’m not saying you need to install every single plugin I mentioned, as some of them might not help you. However, blogging is hard enough; plugins just make things a little easier. So make the most of them, speed up your site, optimize the crap out of it and run a successful blog!

In Prosperity,

David Wood

Hello Dave, great post. I would like to introduce your readers to another excellent Wordpress plugin. Our GTS Translation plugin is guaranteed to drive more international traffic to your site by providing high quality translation, and SEO of your translated content. The GTS Translation plugin provides human quality translation by allowing you to combine automatic translation and human post-editing (crowdsourcing). Your blog content is initially translated by our translation server. The content is then post-edited by human translators through our online editing system. You can use the GTS community of translators, or you can assign the post-editing to your own community of translators to maintain complete control of the process. When you use the GTS Translation plugin, translated content is cached in your WordPress database and indexed by search engines. This will increase the traffic to your website and grow your international readership. You can find more information and download the plugin from http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/gts-translation/.

Sorry Dave but you are a little bit wrong in this one. I think you have a bunch of followers in the international market, specially in Latin America. Besides, you live in Costa Rica! Cheers from Guadalajara, Mexico

Cool man, I'll check it out - the problem I have with that, is my current business model operates off of things I sell, and I sell in English - so I don't see a lot of point to the traffic until I also am multilingual or create partners and translations of all my sales videos. So with that in mind - what's the point?
