Why I haven’t done Network Marketing seriously since 2017.
Dear Friend,
It’s been a long time coming writing this post.
I am going to pull something miraculous these days and rather than having AI write it, I’ll just type it out with my good old hands.
I only have a few minutes to pull this off as in about 30 I’m going to run to the gym, so I’ll have to make this decently concise, which I am often not so talented at doing.
So why haven’t I seriously done network marketing since 2017?
Quite simply:
I haven’t wanted to.
Sure, there has been some decent stuff that has popped across my desk. I even dabbled by launching a few small teams. One team I built to about 4,000 people in approximately 60 days. The next team I built to about 91,000 people in about 3 months. So when I say I haven’t done network marketing seriously it’s not because I haven’t dabbled in it.
A lot of you know that in 2011 I launched a company called Empower Network.
Some of you remember the events we did that had anywhere from 1,100 to 6,200 people:

And some of you remember some of the big checks that were generated, some of them were for tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or even for millions of dollars. Here’s a check from 2012 for $464,913 before any of them had gotten too big to believe yet:

Here’s an event that I was speaking in front of that had about 4500 attendees:

Yep, I’m the one in the lower left corner.
It was pretty cool, doing those events.
They started small, the first only had 37 people. Quickly it grew, and the next event had 1200 people.
It grew big, and it crashed bigger. I don’t have time to tell the whole story right now (as I have to go to the gym in 20 more minutes so I will keep this short) but I don’t know if you know what it’s like to build a massive team like this.
There is something special to it. There is like an energy, a synergy that you get from creating it that is unlike anything else you will ever experience. When it happens, you think the momentum you are riding will simply continue in a similar way forever.
Empower Network grew fast and it crashed with a similar bang. Probably, and I don’t mean to brag about how cool the company was, Empower Network was for a time the coolest company in Network Marketing history. We got to a point where there were thousands of people attending events, and they were the most high energy events that anyone had ever attended.
The checks were huge.
The money flowed like wine.
In fact, here’s a snapshot of a tax return showing the sales we processed in one of our years:

We actually did more than the $64 million in total sales with the entire base of our affiliates that year. I don’t know if you remember but we had people doing sales through their own merchant accounts hooked up to our site. The total sales I would estimate to have been somewhere over $90 million that year but I actually don’t know for sure. There was just a lot of money and it was moving fast.
So what happened?
The complexity of answering that question is by itself a journey to answer, but the simple version is many things. Sometimes in life, it seems that you hit strides where everything is working in your favor and it is like the background fabric of the universe is working in your favor to construct your outcomes. Sometimes events happen in a sequential fashion in such a powerful sequence of impossible circumstances that when you are standing at the end looking at the chained happenings you know that there was something beyond simple human hands working together to construct your fate.
At other times, the reverse is true. One thing breaks, and then another and no amount of incredible effort can make something happen which is meant to fade away.
Essentially the short answer of why I have not truly put my heart and soul into a project since 2017 is that there has not been anything that I thought was simply AWESOME.
Sure, some projects of come, and others have gone. There has been some money made. But basically there has been nothing out there with the real power to transform. There has been nothing out there which truly had the potential to be a game changer on a more profound level than what I have already experienced. There has been nothing out there which ha the power to truly unify and empower people to create new kinds of lives that extends beyond simple money games and the pyramid schemes that the online business opportunity market loves.
The products have been mostly soulless. The leaders have many times been in it for themselves. The company owners have been corporate junkies who see the reps as a means to an end – a tool to be discarded when the money comes in.
And moreover, the messages and stories have been weak, uninspiring, and lacking magic.
That’s not to knock the great leaders out there, the ethical players, the great team builders and the salt of the earth people who truly have dreams, are doing their best, and are in the field building real magic with people.
To the great teams of the world – may you rise and shine like the beauty of the phoenix rising from the ashes and do something great that you’ve never been able to do in the past.
I don’t know if soon I will suddenly find myself inspired again.
But for now, I have been watching – and I’m hoping something comes along that is truly worthy of the people.
Until then –
Talk soon,
