A Content Marketing Strategy That Will Rock Your Business
So over the last few years I’ve generated a ton of content. I’ve personally written, recorded and published thousands of pieces of content. At first it was my online marketing approach I was using to generate traffic. A year down the line I was kicking ass, generating thousands of daily visitors and countless leads. To this date I still believe that content marketing is the #1 way to market a business online. (Espcially if you’re a marketer like me)
Why? Well at first it was actually because it’s practically free. Two years ago I was broke so I didn’t have much money to put towards PPC advertising or anything like that. So after a lot of struggling, time, effort and evil genius schemes… a content marketing strategy was born. The same strategy I use daily to build a 6+ figure business online.
Just a quick warning, if you want to use content to generate traffic and leads online, you need a lot of spare time. It’s not a fast way to build your business and you’re not going to see overnight results. So prepare to work on this strategy for a couple of months or don’t bother at all.
Everyone says if you want to generate traffic online with content, just write a bunch of articles, and submit them to a few directories. Sure that worked 10 years ago and it still sort of works now, but there’s more to it. First of all my strategy involves articles and videos. So be prepared to make videos and write content. Or outsource it, whatever you want.
So here’s what to do….
- Write An Article
- Publish It On Your Website
- Make Content Social + Syndicate
- Build Links: Spin & Submit To Thousands Of Directories/Blogs
- Make Video From Article + Publish Video On Video Directories
- EXTRA: Publish Press Release
The whole point of my content marketing strategy is to get ranked in the search engines and receive lots of free traffic. Over time, our content compounds and builds up dramatically resulting in massive amounts of daily traffic. So think of something to write about and search for a few keywords you can target. That’s all, just make sure you do it or everything else won’t matter.
2. Post Content On Your Site
Once it’s ready, just publish it on your website or blog. Not sure why I gave this one a whole section but, I guess there’s a few things I can say. You hold full responsibility for making your website look and read extremely well. Make it easy to navigate, make it unique, attractive and most importantly monetize it correctly. Most of the time this means adding opt in boxes to build an email list.
3. Make Your Content Social + Syndicate
A ton of people forget to mention this one. You need to make your content social! Before I knew about this, I was down 1000+ visitors a day on this very blog! The power of social syndication is phenomenal. By simply adding a few share buttons to your website, you’ll increase user activity, traffic, rankings and you’ll get more repeat visitors. People love to interact with your content.
So if they like your article or video, let them syndicate it via Facebook, Twitter and any other social networks/bookmarking sites you like. I generally use the Share Bar which I’ll talk about in another article as it rocks. Increases user activity dramatically. So within or by the side of your content, add some social sharing buttons.
I’m not going to explain how, but a few searches will give you your answer. Also, make sure you personally syndicate your content on social networking sites. There are plugins available to automatically syndicate your new content on sites like Facebook & Twitter.
4. Build Backlinks
This part is also essential, as I’ve said before backlinks will either make or break your website. Without other webpage’s linking to your content, it will never rank in the search engines. Just take my word on this or you’ll fail miserably. So here are a couple of interesting posts that will help you on your voyage to search engine success…
5. Make & Publish Videos
This is actually part of my strategy I happened to stumble upon by accident. I decided to record and publish a video about an article I posted on my blog. The results were nice; I think I increased traffic by something like 20%. Not bad at all for the little effort involved. Just record a quick video or throw together a few PowerPoint slides. Once done, publish it on video directories like YouTube & Metacafe. You can use a tool called TubeMogul to do this for free, or go with a paid tool like Traffic Geyser. Doing this always generates traffic and builds a few extra links to your content. Just make sure you link to your content within your video’s description.
You could just repeat the process again on a daily basis and you’ll be seeing somewhat shocking results 100 odd days from now. Or if you want to do a little extra work, submit a press release. For every piece of content, write a press release about it. Then just publish it on all the free or paid PR sites. There are plenty around and they offer great backlinks. Plus they always send a small burst of traffic to your site.
What you need to know about content marketing is that it all adds up. One piece of content might not generate you any traffic, another piece might generate 10,000 visitors. All I do know is that from the years of experience, it compounds! Overall, I’d say every piece of content I put out there gets a minimum of 5-250 daily visitors. Sure, 5 visitors… that sucks. Just know that this blog gets thousands of daily visitors and only has just over 225 blog posts. Do the math, work out the average. Of course, I do some extra stuff… But you now have a pretty good idea of what I’ve done to get to this point.
