Part of the guide: Blog Traffic

When you first start writing articles to drive traffic to your website you’ll have to rely more heavily on keywords and backlinks to rank on the search engines. In this article I’ll be going over 3 tools of the article marketing trade. The one of the tools I’ll be covering is free but the others do cost a little money. The cool thing is that once you’ve bought the tools there yours at no additional cost and no monthly fees.
Keyword research is something every article marketer has to do (especially in the beginning). Don’t go crazy trying to find the holy grail of keywords, though, and waste a bunch of time. It’s better to produce content than it is to do keyword research all day. That being said you should at least check your keywords to see what you’re in for. Ranking for some keywords is pretty easy and ranking for others is like trying to break into the pentagon with a pocket knife and a hammer.
There are a few options when it comes to keyword research. You can use Google’s free keyword research tool (checked as of July, 2024) or you can pay for a research tool. Google’s free tool does the job, but there is a certain amount of additional work you’ll have to do to see if the keyword you’re targeting is worth the effort. In my opinion, a tool like Market Samurai is well worth the investment. You can get Market Samurai (checked as of July, 2024) for under a hundred dollars and it has a ton of features that can save you a lot of time. There are other tools you can get for keyword research but Market Samurai is affordable and it definitely gets the job done.
Now that we’ve covered the different tools that can be used to do keyword research, let’s go over how to amplify your articles with backlinks. There are a few different ways to get backlinks, but I don’t like paying monthly fees and with the tool I’m about to mention, you can spin your articles and submit them too. I use a program called Article Marketing Robot (no longer available; alternatives: Spin Rewriter, The Best Spinner). It can spin and submit my articles to over a thousand different directories. The only thing that isn’t automatic is spinning the article.
In case you don’t know what spinning is, it’s the ability to take an article and turn it into hundreds of articles. Basically, what you do is change select words in your article. Instead of saying the word “car”, you can use the words “automobile” or “vehicle”. Using this option makes the search engines think you have hundreds of unique articles on the internet that backlink to your main article and that gives your main article more authority. Article Marketing Robot is a fantastic tool and anyone who’s serious about article marketing should have it.

While you don’t have to purchase any of the tools I’ve mentioned to rank on the search engines, you will eventually have to purchase something similar. There are a lot of great tools that can be used to promote your articles. There are also a lot of fantastic services that can get your content in front of a lot of people. I personally use the tools I’ve mentioned and I’m very happy with the way they perform. Feel free to mention some of the tools you use in the comments section below. I know there’s more than 3 tools of the article marketing trade and I’d love to hear about some other great tools and services that other people are having success with. You have watched the number on the dashboard not match the number in your account. What is different now is simple: it settles on a public contract you can check yourself, not a dashboard I control.

Most affiliates earn little, and that is disclosed up front. The difference here is not a promise about what you will make. It is that you can verify every payout yourself, on a public contract, in about twelve seconds.

The tool this article recommends is dead and footnoted as such — so does the underlying tactic, spin-and-mass-submit, still work with its listed replacements, or did that die with it too?
Look. The whole tools section assumes the bottleneck is submission volume. It isn’t. A thousand directories getting a spun article each isn’t a distribution problem solved, it’s a thousand thin pages nobody reads, dressed up as backlinks. Fine, it’s cheap. Cheap and pointless isn’t a business model.
I built my entire audience writing every word myself, so the idea of “spinning” one article into hundreds sits oddly with me — if a sentence isn’t worth writing once properly, submitting three hundred synonym-swapped versions of it doesn’t make it worth more. The volume is doing work the writing itself never did.
Anneke’s comment sent me down a different road — this whole trade is basically the SEO version of a photocopier, and every generation of it gets a new name once the last one stops working. Spinning software, content mills, whatever comes next, all solving “I need a thousand things that look like articles” instead of “I need one thing worth reading.” Feels like we’re due for the tools to change again and the underlying shortcut to stay exactly the same.
Declan, “every generation gets a new name” is a nice line but what’s the actual half-life? Article Marketing Robot lasted how many years before directories caught on and it stopped converting? Without that number the pattern is just a feeling, not a trend.
