Top 6 Free Traffic Generation Strategies

If you’re running an online business then traffic generation should be one of your top priorities. Without traffic, you literally have nothing. If you know how to generate traffic on demand, you can make infinite amounts of money. Saying that – traffic is just one part of the equation – monetization is the other.

While that’s sort of true, I would say around 70% of “the equation” is traffic. So if you can generate traffic, especially for free – you can make A LOT of money. So here are just 6 free traffic generation strategies that work like crazy:

1. Content Marketing

Content marketing is probably the biggest free traffic generation strategy that actually works. It’s not actually 1 marketing strategy, but a group of strategies. Content marketing is any marketing strategy that involves using free content i.e. video, text, documents, or audio to drive traffic. The majority of free traffic generation strategies revolve around content marketing. So clearly – I had to include it as the number 1 strategy on my list. You can read more on content marketing here (works, checked as of 2024).

2. Blogging

Blogging is by far the most powerful free traffic generation strategy. If someone asked me how they could start generating free traffic online – I’d tell them to start a blog. Generating traffic with a blog is simple. You need great content, good on-page SEO, social SEO, and lots of backlinks. If you don’t know, a blog is essentially a content marketing platform. It’s a platform you post content on, and then you promote the content on your blog, receiving traffic from sources like Google, Facebook, YouTube, and social bookmarking sites. 3. Article Marketing

Article marketing is one of those evergreen traffic generation strategies that’s been around since the beginning of the Internet. It’s a simple strategy: pick a keyword from here (works, checked as of 2024), write an article about it, publish it on a directory, and promote it. It’s another content marketing strategy that’s easy to learn, easy to outsource, and completely free. For more on article marketing, look here (works, checked as of 2024) and here (works, checked as of 2024).

4. Video Marketing

Video marketing is another one of those basic strategies marketers have been using for years. It’s similar to the above strategies. You select a keyword, create a video about it, upload it to YouTube or another video site, and promote it. Your video will then rank in the search engines and receive organic traffic from Google, video sites, and social networks. Video marketing has its downfalls, but it’s an excellent strategy to couple with something like article marketing or blogging.

5. Forum Marketing

Forums are immensely popular. There are thousands of them out there, hundreds in most niches. They are all free to join, and if you know how, you can use them to drive a large amount of traffic. Forum marketing isn’t as complex as other strategies. All you have to do is create an account on several top forums and make posts regularly. Before you start participating in any forum discussions/threads, you must add an enticing signature that encourages members to check out your site. A simple Google search, such as “forum + Your Keyword Here”, will help you find forums in your niche.

6. Blog Commenting

Blog commenting is simple, fun, and easy enough for anyone to do. Almost all blogs have a commenting section below their posts. When you go to post a comment, you’re asked for your name, email, website, and comment. You just have to input your website in the field and write a meaningful comment. When other visitors read your insightful comment, they’ll be tempted to click through to your website. It’s a powerful traffic generation strategy that many use, though not on the scale I do.

In prosperity,

I have a quick question about video marketing. Do you recommend focusing on YouTube exclusively, or are there other video platforms that could be just as effective for driving traffic? Thanks in advance for the guidance!

This is a great list, but I feel like article marketing might be a bit outdated. With social media and video platforms growing so fast, is article marketing still as effective as it once was?
