Part of the guide: Network Marketing Lead Generation

If you’ve been in the Network Marketing industry for any length of time then you’ll know just how difficult it can be to get the ball rolling. So many challenges to overcome… Lead generation, relationship building, prospecting & mind control, closing and then that thing we call duplication. Here’s the truth…
If you can’t master the above 5 things, you will fail miserably in the MLM industry. Ok, so there are a few exceptions. There are occasions where you’re able to recruit a couple of guys who go on to build a team of several thousand. That does happen, but rarely. If you really want to excel and build a highly lucrative 6+ figure yearly business, you have to master those 5 MLM elements. Here’s how they work in conjunction with each other…
1. Lead Generation
Without leads, your Network Marketing business is dead. Leads are the life and soul of almost every business. Without leads, you can’t build relationships, prospect, or close anyone into your MLM company. So obviously, none of the other stuff even matters if you can’t generate any leads. Even if you’re a closing monster, you’re still going to fail miserably if you can’t generate any leads. There are hundreds of lead generation strategies. They all start off with traffic.
You simply need a lead capture page, an autoresponder, and some targeted traffic. As for traffic generation, there’s blogging, article marketing, video marketing, and paid strategies like pay per click. Once the traffic is flowing, you need to funnel it directly to your capture page. You need to set up your capture page with your autoresponder. You should already know this, but an autoresponder is an email marketing tool like Aweber. There are some other minor details involved, which you’ll need to work out yourself.
2. Relationship Building
Once your leads are rolling in, you absolutely MUST build relationships. People won’t join your downline unless they trust you PERIOD. Fortunately, you can leverage technology to put your relationship building on total autopilot. You basically just have to use your autoresponder and some crafty email marketing stuff. You can create a 2-3 week long follow-up series using your autoresponder. In the first 2-3 weeks, you just need to give away great content and build some trust between you & your subscribers. You do this by sharing blog posts and videos. You can also give away free reports and other products…
3. Prospecting And Mind Control
After you’ve generated leads and built a relationship through the sharing of high-quality content, you need to start prospecting. Prospecting and mind control can only be mastered over a period of time. It’s not something you just understand or “get” overnight. It takes a lot of practice. Fundamentally, prospecting is the process where you build up your prospect’s desire to join your business. You do this by sharing content, emphasizing how painful your prospect’s problems are. Outlining every reason why they need to fix their problem (financial problem) and painting a picture of what life could be like with some money. That goes into mind control. The master prospectors of the MLM world know exactly how the human brain works and they’re practically able to control it. Prospecting also involves exposing your primary opportunity and selling your opportunity.
4. Closing
I actually know guys who have all of the 3 above elements perfected, but they’re utterly terrible at closing. Closing is an art; it’s all about posture and timing. You have to tell your prospects to join at the right time and you need to tell them the right way. The problem is that most Networkers bomb out in their first 3 months. And… 3 months isn’t nearly enough time to figure out, let alone master the above 4 elements. It’s about mind control, knowing how your prospects think, and triggering their emotions.
What’s the solution? Well, a little mathematical formula…
Time + Money X Tools = Success
No matter how much money or tools you have, you’re not going to get this overnight. In fact, I was dead broke and living in a van while I was figuring this stuff out. It took me years, but for the start of my Network Marketing career, I sort of followed the herd and listened to my dumb ass upline. However, in my defense, I had a theory they didn’t know what they were talking about the whole time.
So it might take you a month to figure this stuff out, it might even take you six. You’ll also need some cash, not that much though… But you will need some… And if you don’t have any cash then why have you started a business? To make cash, right? Well that’s dumb considering ALL businesses require start-up capital.
Now as for tools, there are hundreds specifically designed for Networkers. Tools that will help you dramatically speed up the 4-element mastery process. Since I’ve already taught you what the 4 elements are, I’m going to throw in a blatant promotion. I’m recommending 1 tool that will help you rapidly excel in your MLM business. It’s called My Phone Room and I actually talked about it a few weeks ago here. Basically, My Phone Room does 5 things.
- It helps you generate leads.
- It calls up and qualifies your leads. (Gets rid of all the idiots)
- Books qualified leads into your company presentation.
- Connects you with your qualified leads on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
- Even closes prospects who’ve watched your presentation straight into your downline!
If only I came across this tool back when I started… Can you imagine having just 5, 10, or even 20 qualified prospects watch your company presentation on a daily basis? Well, it’s all possible with the help of tools like My Phone Room.

You have watched the number on the dashboard not match the number in your account. What is different now is simple: it settles on a public contract you can check yourself, not a dashboard I control.
Read the contract →Most participants earn little to nothing. No income is guaranteed. You can verify every payout on the public smart contract.

So much awesome in this, Dave. Everyone starting out needs to have this laid out for them, just like this.Jamie, September 28, 2011, 09:39
Wow Dave, amazing post. All so true, you absolutely must master the 5 elements or you’ll fail miserably. I actually just checked out My Phone Room through your “blatant” promotion. I called in and wow are they good on the phone! Thanks buddy…Maya Cruz, September 29, 2011, 11:15
This post is exactly what I needed! The breakdown of the five elements is spot on, especially the importance of relationship building. It’s not something that gets talked about enough in MLM. Thanks for sharing your insights, Dave!Jordan Lee, September 29, 2011, 12:30
I’m a bit skeptical about the mind control aspect. It sounds a bit far-fetched. Do you have any concrete examples or evidence that this really works in the MLM industry?Erika Sandoval, September 29, 2011, 13:45
Can you clarify a bit more about the autoresponder setup? I’m new to this and would appreciate some tips on how to get started effectively. Thanks in advance!Kevin Thompson, September 29, 2011, 15:00
While I appreciate the thoroughness of this post, I have to disagree with the emphasis on mind control. I believe building genuine relationships is more effective than any psychological trick. Just my two cents.Ashley Perez, September 29, 2011, 16:20
Hey Dave! It’s been a while since we last connected. How have you been? Let’s catch up soon, maybe grab a coffee and talk about how things are going in the MLM world.Raul Martinez, September 29, 2011, 17:35
This reminds me of a similar issue I had when I first started in MLM. I struggled a lot with lead generation, but after focusing on relationship building, things started to improve. Great post!Laura Blake, September 29, 2011, 19:50
There’s a tool I’ve been using called “LeadX” that’s been a game changer for my MLM business. It’s similar to My Phone Room but offers a few additional features. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re looking for alternatives.Felix Ramirez, September 29, 2011, 21:05
Thanks for breaking down these elements so clearly. I’ve been struggling with closing deals, but your tips on timing and posture have given me a new perspective. I’m looking forward to applying these strategies!

Most affiliates earn little, and that is disclosed up front. The difference here is not a promise about what you will make. It is that you can verify every payout yourself, on a public contract, in about twelve seconds.

Step two, relationship building, is basically a drip campaign — fully automatable, autoresponder sequence, branch logic on opens and clicks. Step three, prospecting, is not. That needs an actual human reading an actual objection.
There’s a real difference between understanding someone’s problem to genuinely help them and studying their psychology to move them toward a decision they might not make with a clear head.
Mind control language aside, purely on the time math: this post lists five things to master plus a tool plus a formula. None of that fits in forty-five minutes. Relationship building is the only one that compounds without me present for every rep. The rest needs me live.
What the post is circling with ‘mind control’ has a name in the persuasion literature, and it isn’t a new discovery: it’s closer to Robert Cialdini’s documented principles of scarcity, social proof and reciprocity than to anything mystical, and the field has studied these mechanisms carefully for decades under much less dramatic language. Calling it mind control makes it sound both more powerful and more sinister than the underlying, fairly well-documented psychological levers actually are, and it does a disservice in both directions at once — it oversells the technique to the person selling it, and it undersells the legitimate, fairly mundane skill involved in genuinely understanding what a prospect actually needs before you ever open your mouth. Naming the mechanism plainly would serve the reader better than dressing it up in a movie reference.
