How To Build A Sales Funnel (Part One)

Most Internet Marketers scatter their focus across several business models, niches and strategies. They write posts on 5 different blogs, create products for all kinds of niches and for some reason they’re not making nearly as much money as they are worth.

It’s a common problem with Internet Marketers, finding laser like focus. I really believe it’s the most fundamental reason why people fail online, or take so long to find success. It’s because they don’t really know what they’re doing, why they’re doing it or how.

You need to find your why, what and how!

Before you can build out your sales funnel and create your master IM plan, you need to figure out what you really want and why you want it. If you struggle with focus or have struggled in the past; know that you’re not alone.

With so many different levels, facets and components to Internet Marketing, it’s easy to get lost or distracted from your vision. The key is to have a vision. To form your vision, you first need to know why.

Why are you doing this? You can’t just want to make a million bucks, to have a nice car, travel; we all want those things. You need to find the underlying reason, your true why. Freedom? Peace? Personal happiness? Want to spend time raising a family?

Next work on your what. What do you really want? Do you want to be in webinars, joint ventures, product launches, SEO, facebook marketing? Or would you like to start a blog, build a list and sell affiliate products?

You need to form a clear vision of the exact income generating business you want to build. Next figure out how it will work. Calculate all the variables and work out all the different components that need to be built for your master plan.

It might be to create a health and fitness brand. To start a website empowering others to lose weight and get in shape. That might be your true passion and purpose in life, helping people with their health. Maybe you lost 200lbs, cured an incurable disease and want to help others do the same.

You could create a product teaching people how you cured yourself and market it via a blog and other traffic campaigns. Figure out how much you want to earn, what it will take to earn it and how you’re going to do it. When you know what niche you want to be in, and who you want to help; it’s time to create your funnel.

1. Breakdown All Your Traffic Driving Activities And Round Up Assets

Traffic driving activities like:

  • Blogging
  • Guest posting
  • Webinars
  • Videos
  • Social Media
  • Hosting Interviews/podcasts
  • Joint Ventures
  • Paid Advertising
  • SEO

Next make a list of all of your traffic driving assets. Things like:

  • Free Reports
  • Capture Pages
  • Websites
  • Blogs
  • Web2.0′s
  • Articles
  • Social Media Accounts
  • Email Lists
  • Customers

You should have a list of every single traffic generating asset you have in your hands. All of these assets you can use to drive traffic. You may be using them to drive traffic to different sources/projects or products.

To really break through and build a real business, you need to concentrate all of these traffic generating assets and activities on one main funnel.

2. Map Out Products

You need to carefully map out your sales funnel, your products. A good sales funnel should have at least 3 different core products, each one more expensive than the other.

First you want to have a cheap low-end offer, a $9-$27 product. This can be a short report or series of videos. Next you should have a mid range product priced anywhere from $47-$97, third you should have a high ticket product of $197-$497.

Low-end/Mid-Range/High-end

Of course, you can later create more products or test different price ranges. But to begin with you should map out 3 different products, a low end product, a mid range product and high end product.

Product creation is way out of the scope of this article. You merely need to create products that people will buy in your chosen market. Look at what your audience are spending money on, create something similar using your own knowledge and information/tools/skillset. Find out what people are really willing to pay for, and why.

The idea is to get people on your buyers list with a low end $10-$30 offer. You need to really over deliver on this low-end offer, create an offer that cannot be refused. Once subscribers have bought the low end offer, they move onto your customer list where they are soon sold the mid range offer.

Lastly you sell the high ticket product to the customers who bought both the low end and mid range products. Therefore creating a funnel, the further a customer goes down; the more expensive the products get.

I’m still skeptical about the effectiveness of some of these strategies, especially the use of multiple traffic driving activities. Do you have any case studies or concrete evidence to back up these claims? It would be helpful to see some real-world examples of these methods in action. Your posts are always thought-provoking, and I appreciate the effort you put into them.
