11.5 Ways to Build Your Self Confidence: A FearlessTeamLeader.com Tip Sheet
By Clint Maki ~Fearless Team Leader~

Be ready to change or be content to linger on the brink of mediocrity. Learning to build yourself up is a skill. Often we are taught as kids that feeling good about ourselves is not humble. Not true. That false belief has led too many people down paths of mediocrity and, worse yet, outright self-destruction. It’s time to give yourself permission to feel GREAT about yourself.
This is a short list of methods you can apply TODAY to build a better life through confidence in yourself:
1. Compliment others.
Encouraging others builds your own spirit. A genuine compliment lifts everyone in the room. Be a good finder, but be genuine.
2. Compliment yourself
What do you say when you talk to yourself? That is a book title and a very effective question. Find the good in yourself. Throw fertilizer on the talents and traits you know are unique to you.
3. Work on your appearance
If you have physical characteristics that make you feel less than perfect, fix them. Dress better. Ask a good friend for fashion advice. Hire or beg for professional image consulting. A good friend of mine had her nose altered after a lifetime of feeling awkward. The transformation in her self confidence was worth a LOT more than the cost of the procedure.
4 Exercise
This goes along with working on your appearance, (#3), eating better (#4) and sleeping more (#5). The chemical makeup of your metabolism will improve. You will lose weight faster, sleep better and have more energy. People will be drawn to you. You will live longer and enjoy life along the way. You don’t need to do anything extreme, just move your body with a brisk walk. Graduate to higher levels of exercise. Multi task while accomplishing #7 and you will be ahead of the curve with respect to time.

5. Eat better
It’s been proven. Eating better and cutting out the junk has a bearing on your mindset. Also, when we lose extra weight and improve our life something comes clear to us: we can ACTUALLY control our own lives.
6. Sleep more
Treat yourself like a champion race horse. Put yourself away at night. When you sleep more you will sleep better. When you combine #3.5, 4 and #6 together your sleep will improve and your mind will clear.
7. Dump a few friends
Pigs don’t know pigs stink. If you have friends that drag you down, it’s your fault. I’m sort of sorry for being blunt, but I have done this. It makes a difference in your perspective. You are the average of your closest friends. If you don’t like the way your life is working out, then it’s time for some new friends.
7.5 Get some new and BETTER friends. Join a few positive groups
Positive and encouraging friends will build your self confidence. Join a new church or civic service organization. Meet NEW people. Sort them by attitude and enjoy their presence. Bless them with your presence.
8. Quit some bad habits.
You have habits that distract you or destroy you. Everyone does. When you take control of yourself, power flows where your energy goes. Smoking, driving too fast and negativism are just a few examples of habits that destroy lives. Be a SLAVE to your habits or be their MASTER….You decide. Acquire some good habits (#4 through 7.5)
9. Read or listen to Personal Development materials.
Fill your mind with something good. Feed the best part of your existence. Substitute the garbage for goodness. If you like, I have a deep pool of resources from which you can draw. Everyone being different, we all start someplace special and unique. The habit of reading and listening to mind expanding materials will pay huge dividends.
10 Turn OFF the conventional media.
Most of EVERYTHING on TV and other main stream media is designed to sell you something. Almost ALL of it, in my opinion is TRASH. It impedes your ability to feel right about yourself by pointing out your deficiencies, magnifying them and then offering to sell you a quick fix. Stop falling for that. Just QUIT subjecting yourself to their examination of your deficiencies.
11. Hire a coach or find an Accountability Partner
A clear perspective from an outside source is valuable. Submit your ego, at least temporarily to a person with wisdom and you will bless yourself and everyone around you. Being humble enough to receive the wisdom of another is in itself wisdom. This will change your life if you find the right person.
This, of course is not an all-inclusive list. There are plenty of more tips I can add to this list, but this is enough to get you pointed in the right direction. Now, go out and change the world by changing your OWN life first.

Awesome post, Clint. You’re so right…appearance makes a whole lot of difference. My suggestion is…if you don’t like the way you look, change it. Dress for success and be confident. Always make eye contact with people you come in contact, and I don’t mean staring down at people either. Walk with a pep in your step and be excited about life.
