7 Deadly MLM Prospecting Techniques
If you’re running a Network Marketing business, you should be prospecting all the time. Unless you have an army of distributors building your business for you, there’s just no way around it. So over the years I’ve become sort of a prospecting expert. I’ve talked to A LOT of leads and I’ve sponsored a large percentage of them into my MLM company. So what I wanted to do was list my top 5 techniques I’ve used in the past to prospect people into my MLM business. Right now I hardly do any prospecting; in fact it’s fair to say I don’t do any.
As with my current lead flow, sales funnel and online presentations, I basically enroll people into my company on complete auto pilot. A lot of the time I have multiple people join daily. It’s pretty cool, but it’s taken me A LOT of time to setup. Seriously, well over a year of planning and strategic work. So unless you’re generating 100+ leads a day and you’re consistently sponsoring new reps on complete autopilot, you need to prospect daily. So here are my five best techniques I’ve personally used to sponsor hundreds of reps into several MLM companies.
1. The Mobile Phone
Yeah, this is seriously the ultimate way to prospect people into your business. Whether you like it or not, you have no option but to use your mobile phone. For some reason, like 50% of all Networkers are afraid to get out their phones. Maybe it’s because they’re lacking in self confidence or maybe it’s because they’re afraid of rejection. Who knows, but if you want to do at all well in Network Marketing, you need to get over your fears. Of course you’ll have to have actual leads to do this. If you’re not generating leads yet and you’ve already burnt through your warm market, all this information is irrelevant. You need to get out there and you need to start generating new leads.
2. Home/Outdoor Meetings
Seriously, there is nothing like prospecting in person. The only problem is that no one you meet on online will ever turn up for some offline “meeting”. While this method of prospecting is very effective, it only works with the people you personally know. Then again, I know guys who gather groups of 10-15 people and hold local meetings. It’s a great way to kick start your business if you’re a trusted guy in your local area. Or if you just invite a couple of friends over who you could “nicely pitch”. That stuff works! I really want to stress how effective this really is. Like if you’ve been struggling to sponsor people online and you’re about to go broke, hold a home meeting. Get out your whiteboard and draw a pyramid. Tell your friends they’ll be rich in 6 months if they just get 2 people who get 2 people who get 2 people. You get the idea, if whoever you talk to trusts you enough, he or she’ll join you. (hopefully)
3. Skype/Instant Messenger
Now this technique is responsible for me sponsoring well over 100 people. Once people watch one of my online sales presentations, if they don’t instantly signup they usually want a quick chat. Generally I’ll give out my Skype ID and a time they can contact me. Remember, when you’re prospecting you need to be in the driver’s seat. You need to organize a time that’s good for you, not your potential prospect. As like 95% of prospects will waste your time asking dumb questions only to drop out your company 2 weeks after joining. So using Skype or another instant messenger can actually be a great way to prospect. If you have a large contact list, just get chatting to them. You’ll eventually sign a few people up. Of course, some super Jedi ninja mind tricks will be needed. All in all, instant messaging is a cool and simple way of prospecting for the people who’re afraid of picking up the phone.
Hosting webinars can be a fantastic way to prospect and enroll groups of people all at once. I used to do a lot of webinars and when I did, I enrolled at least 10-20 people on the spot. Of course, I filled up my webinars with hundreds of people so it’s not something everyone can do. Although if you have a decent sized email list you can promote the webinar weeks before. Even if you have just 500 subscribers, there’s no reason why you can’t fill a room with 100 people. Why do webinars? Well they are just so damn effective. The conversion rate is always huge! You can enroll like 1/20 webinar attendees with a good presentation. All you have to do is prepare a quick PowerPoint presentation before hand. Then just go through the slides explaining Network Marketing and the lifestyle your opportunity can provide. All you have to do is paint a picture of what life will be like after 6 months of joining your opportunity. Real simple stuff, people generally pay attention to what you’re saying on a webinar.
5. My Ultimate Strategy
So I’ve explained a couple of techniques you can use to prospect leads into your business. I personally don’t really use them anymore. As I like to take a more automated approach. So what’s my approach? Well, it all starts with my lead generation. All my articles, videos and blog posts that are floating around the web generate a ton of daily leads. All the leads go directly into my relationship building funnel. Once they’re in my funnel, I feed them with cool information that’s totally free. I’ll send them blog posts, videos and the occasional webinar invitation. While your leads don’t really know it, you’re virtually prospecting them by giving away free information. They start to like and trust you, that’s what prospecting’s all about. Once a little trust is built up, I expose them to my opportunity through an online video presentation.
Usually it’s a recording that talks about the government, financial crisis, society and why jobs are silly. Towards the end I’ll cover my business opportunity and at the very end, I’ll have a signup now button appear. If they reject the offer, they stay in my funnel and will be invited to more presentations until they get involved. With my unique approach, there’s no manual work involved. The only thing I’d advise people to do is add a “request a call back” button below your presentations/webinars.
That way you can then follow up and close the red hot leads. I would actually make the effort to follow up with those kinds of leads as they are seriously hot and most of the time they just need a small push before they’ll join. I actually hardly even call those kinds of leads up. As I like to keep prospecting to a minimum, I don’t feel the need to call anyone up when I’m automatically sponsoring multiple people daily. With the Internet and tools like webinars, video presentations & autoresponders, anything’s possible!
