Shocking MLM Lead Generation Secrets
As Networkers, we all know the importance of generating fresh leads. Without new leads coming in, we have no one to prospect and zero chance of making any money. As we also all know that without constantly recruiting new reps, our income probably won’t exponentially grow. Ok ok, so that might not be 100% true.
If you’ve got an established team of 100+ personally recruited reps, you may well be able to sit back and just wait for that exponential growth. BUT, in the beginning, you absolutely must keep generating new leads; you must keep talking to people and ultimately you must recruit new reps on a regular basis. So how’s it done?
Well, through a system. Systems should do all the work for you (like prospecting, relationship building etc) and your job should be to feed your system with new leads. Anyway, it all boils down to MLM lead generation and most networkers really struggle with it. So here’s the deal, you have 3 options:
- Buying leads from companies
- Generating them offline
- Generating them online
Sure, there’s a load more ways to generate leads, but those are the 3 fundamental strategies. A quick word on buying leads. May as well break it down into sub-articles…
Buying MLM Leads
Buying other people’s leads is in fact… a terrible idea. I know there are a load of companies out there that provide supposedly “high quality” MLM lead lists that are somewhat fresh. Most of these lists consist of genealogy leads. Basically, lists of people who’ve been in Network Marketing.
Anyway, they suck and you’ll find the process of calling up these leads highly demoralizing. Why Dave? Well you know… first of all only like 30% of the leads you purchase will be up to date. The rest will be totally random leads, they say they’re all verified but I’m sure you’ll get phone numbers that are now out of service. Also, these leads don’t know who you are. When you call up a lead that’s never heard of you and has no idea who you are, it’s rude. They’ll straight away be all confrontational asking why you’re calling and what you want. Then… if you mention the word opportunity or product X, you’ll get the phone slammed down on you almost instantly… Not what I signed up for!
Generating MLM Leads Offline
Generating leads offline isn’t such a bad idea. I actually ‘endorse’ offline lead generation as I’m a big fan of diversifying. Diversifying my lead sources, my income streams, and just about everything in business. Generating leads offline doesn’t mean you have to go pitch Uncle Bob & Cousin Joe. Not at all, I don’t even have to mention the word warm market. We all hate that word right? It’s like “Voldemort,” the word that should never be said (LOL).
So here are a couple of ways you can generate leads offline:
- Drop cards – you know those little cards with dollar bills on the front and a link on the back?
- Events – Another forbidden word…
- Offline advertising
Drop cards are actually pretty effective. You can order a whole bunch of them (like 1000 for $50) and drop them around town all over the place. Or you can take a more strategic approach by “placing” them where your ideal prospects would go.
Events, I know you hate them… I don’t mean holding events at your house or anything. Those suck. Although they’re a great way to get started, most networkers despise them. I meant to say that you should attend events, not host them. Seminars rock! You can meet some pretty high-profile people while at the same time aspiring entrepreneurs.
By advertising I mean newspapers, magazines, television, and general offline advertising. It might be a little expensive, but can be extremely lucrative. My advice is to start off with the first two, then dive into offline advertising. Just think about the big companies though. Avon etc, they all advertise their “Home Base Businesses” in front of millions on mainstream TV, they spend millions so they must be making it back!
Generating MLM Leads Online
Now this is the preferred strategy of mine which I use religiously. In fact, I generate well over 100 red hot leads every day online. Then my system takes care of the rest. Now that’s how network marketing should be! Generating leads online involves a magical thing called online marketing.
Online or Internet Marketing involves generating traffic and sending it to your own capture pages. Capture pages are of course those pages that offer you something free in return for your email address. There are plenty of ways to generate leads online. Too many in fact. It all starts with traffic.
Overall, I’d say you have 4 choices to generate the traffic:
- Blogging
- Article Marketing
- PPC
- Social Media
All in all, lead generation is all about generating traffic. And traffic generation is about following a proven process. Once you’re generating traffic, you just need an OK capture or “squeeze” page. Then set up a proper email follow-up for your leads. Create an excellent sales funnel. You can even automate the process of recruiting, not hard at all. Just slowly expose leads to your opportunity and have them call you for more information.

Great post, David! I’ve been struggling with lead generation for a while, and this really opened my eyes to some new strategies. Thanks!
Mike
I tried buying leads before, and it was a disaster! I completely agree with your assessment on that. Generating leads through a system makes much more sense.
Jennifer
Do you have any recommendations on a good autoresponder for managing leads? I’ve heard mixed reviews about the ones available out there.
Robert
This all sounds great in theory, but do you have any concrete examples of how these strategies have worked for you? It’s hard to believe until I see some real results.
Emily
I love attending events! It’s true that networking face-to-face is still a powerful way to generate leads. Your tips on placing drop cards strategically are golden.
David
I have been following these strategies for a while, and they do work! The key is to stay consistent with your efforts.
Anna
I appreciate the variety of lead generation methods you’ve outlined here. I’ll definitely give the online approach more focus. Thanks for sharing!
Alexis
This post is spot on, David! I’ve always found that a consistent strategy like yours makes all the difference in MLM. Keep up the great work!
Matthew
Honestly, I’m not entirely convinced this works as smoothly as you say. Do you have any case studies or proof that this system will generate leads as fast as you claim?
Linda
Could you explain more about how the autoresponder works in this system? I’m curious to know what happens after a lead is captured.
Steve
While I find this helpful, I think some of the strategies could use more practical examples. Not all of us are comfortable with the “system” concept right away.
Rachel
David, it’s been a while since we last connected. This post reminded me of our chat at the last event. Let’s catch up soon!

I had a similar problem with generating leads offline. Events and drop cards have helped a bit, but I feel like I’m still missing something. Any additional advice?
Tom
I came across a tool called LeadGenius that automates a lot of the lead generation process. It’s worked wonders for me, and I think you should check it out!

I’ve learned so much from this post, especially about diversifying lead sources. Thanks for making this clear and easy to understand!
