How To Grow A Real Online Business

Growing an online business takes time, effort, a lot of understanding and desire. If you don’t have that burning desire to grow a successful business; you’re probably not going to do it.

Lately, Internet Marketers haven’t been focused on building businesses, instead they’ve been focusing on “ways to make money”. Getting paid and building a business are two completely different things.

Yes, people build businesses to get paid. But if you’re just getting paid and don’t have a business with the 3 core components below; I can see bankruptcy in your future.

A perfect example of this would be Micro Niche Websites. Thousands of Internet Marketers and newbies have been ranting and raving about micro niche websites over the past year or two. They’re little 5-30 page websites that consist of crappy to decent information.

They’re only built to make money, so the people building them know absolutely nothing about the subjects of the sites. So therefore, the sites turn out to be awful. They’re also usually stuffed full of ads and overall; they’re terrible websites.

But over the past year or two, there was a little loophole in Google’s ranking algorithm (what it uses to position websites on Google). A dumb loophole that everyone decided to exploit.

Basically, by buying exact match domains; you could easily dominate the first page of Google within weeks. For example; “carinsuranceforsale.org” is the exact match domain of “car insurance for sale” and could have been used to effortlessly rank on page 1 of Google for that term. If you had the keyword in your domain; Google ranked you for it.

The trouble was; marketers built these sites to rank and make money; with no considerations of quality. They’d buy the domains; slap up any old content that was relevant and then shoot a bunch of backlinks at them. Within days they’d be on page 1 of Google making money and would go on to repeat the process.

That’s just an example of “not” building a real online business. When Google hammered all of those micro niche sites, Google literally destroyed the incomes of thousands overnight. So when everybody complained about losing their “businesses”, you have to ask; did they really have businesses to begin with?

The short answer is no. Exploiting loopholes, providing little value and leveraging technology to just “get paid” isn’t running a business at all. Most people forget that in order for your “business” to qualify as a business; it needs these 3 components:

  1. A Product
  2. Customers
  3. A Way Of Getting Paid

Without those three components you have nothing. You have an unstable income waiting to collapse. You have no control whatsoever. That’s why I think most Internet Marketers are fools. All they have is “a way of getting paid”. They don’t have customers, and most don’t even have products.

The problem is we’ve been able to eliminate the two components that are colossally more important; products and customers. The growing appetite of noob’s wanting to “get rich online” is perpetually growing.

Secondly, there is now an infinite supply of bullshit manufactured by the “gurus” who don’t really have “businesses” either. Also, with new mind blowing graphics combined with ultra hypnotic sales copy; the “gurus” have everyone convinced they can get rich without building a real online business. Just checkout this bullshit:

As you can see, it’s a perfect example of why Internet Marketing has such a bad name. The key point I’m trying to convey here is that you need to build a real online business that will last. In order to do so, you need all 3 of those components. You need to stop focusing on just getting paid and start focusing on building products or services that solve people’s problems, needs or desires.

Do that and you’re half way to Internet Riches. The whole process of growing an online business is dead simple. It’s just like any other business. Find a group of people who have a problem, or just want or need something. Create a product to solve their want, need or problem; then use Internet Marketing to sell it to them.

So how do you actually grow a real online business?

Well, there are several business models that work in 2012 and have done since the beginning. They are…
