Make money online is an easy bait to lure people. Let’s face it; what else made you click the link to this blog? No, don’t get me wrong; I am not playing games with you but I just want to say that people fall easily into any make money online business venture that they come across. Probably that is the number one reason for so many failures because no business can earn profits unless you put some thought, effort, and investment into it. If you want to claim your place in the make money online business, then make sure that you avoid these 4 mistakes like the plague:
#1 Leaping Before You Can Think
Forethought, like foreplay, can take you to better places. So use your brain and keep your eyes, ears, and mouth wide open before jumping into any make money online venture. What do I mean by asking you to keep your eyes, ears, and mouth wide open? Well, before you sign up for that ‘guaranteed’ make money online plan, please use your eyes to look at what other people are writing about it. Check the reviews, consumer forums, etc. Next, use your ears and listen attentively when someone speaks out against the scam involved in this business plan. Keep your mouth wide open and ask people around about their experiences with this make money online plan. Join the consumer forums or go to the sites that review such programs. If all that you see, hear, and perceive are negative reports, save yourself from becoming a scapegoat and move on.
#2 Too Many Irons in the Fire
I know of many over-enthusiastic folks who simply cannot understand the value of keeping things simple. Such people will be all over the internet, dabbling in a hundred and one different kinds of make money online businesses. Their logic is that if one business does not work, they have many others to fall upon. Now who is gonna tell them that they are pre-programming themselves to fail. Scattering your focus and attention on many different tasks is a sure shot way to FLUNK; not succeed. If you are seriously expecting to make money online from your blog posts by attracting paid ads, invest in paid hosting. # 4 Inviting Visitors without Being Prepared
All visitors to websites or blogs are looking for some information or interesting content. No visitor ever pays a visit to merely buy your stuff. Creating a “tools page” is a great way to make recommendations to your readers, and of course a great way to monetize a section of your site, the best way to do this would be to let your readers know that you’ll make money on a few of the products you recommend if they happen to click on any of your links and make a purchase, from what I hear that tactic works well, great post by the way.

The “research forums, check reviews” advice in mistake one assumes there’s a critical mass of people online talking about whatever program you’re looking at. Half of what gets pitched to us out here doesn’t have enough of a track record for that — no forum thread, nobody’s reviewed it, because it’s three guys and a website. Translating “do your research” to “there’s nothing yet to research” is the actual mistake worth naming.
Lonnie, this is such a useful point. I am wondering something related — the hosting mistake mentions a price range that is very small in dollars. Is this US pricing? For those of us paying in a different currency the “almost free” framing may not hold the same, and I wonder if this changes the calculation at all.
Lonnie, there’s a second layer to that same problem — “ask people around about their experiences” assumes you’re someone who asks people around. I built everything I do in writing, with no local community to poll and no interest in cold-messaging strangers in forums to vet a decision. “Do your research” still applies, it just doesn’t look like the version described here.
Mistake three in plain English: don’t build your business on a free host that can shut you down for making money on it, pay the small fee instead. Mistakes one, two and four all boil down to the same single sentence too — think first, do one thing, and don’t waste a visitor’s time. Four mistakes, one instruction really.
Gail, sorry if this is a silly question, but on mistake three — if I’m already on a free blog and didn’t know about the shutdown risk, is switching hosts now something I need to do urgently, or can it wait until I’ve actually got something worth protecting? I genuinely don’t know which it is.
