What The Heck Are Backlinks?
If you’re looking to build a large following online, you must know what backlinks are and how they can benefit you’re marketing efforts.
Simply put, backlinks are links from other websites to your own site. These are also known as inbound or incoming links. I know that you may have seen this many times when you’re reading an article online. For example, when a website links to your site with THIS type of text, it is counted as a backlink. Now backlinks are pretty much the backbone of your SEO efforts. And for those who don’t know what SEO means, it is optimizing your website to produce better search engine rankings.
Why Are Backlinks So Important?
Search engines like Yahoo and Google look at the number and the quality of sites that you have linking to your website. So the main objective in this is to have backlinks from websites that are in the same industry and have popular sites linking to them. So basically it’s a popularity thing. You want to have quality sites linking in.
Which Brings Me To…
Quantity vs Quality
A lot of marketers completely miss this step. They are too worried about the quantity of backlinks, when indeed it’s not about the amount of backlinks you have, but more so the quality. You can have 1 High Quality backlink overpower a thousand others. So remember…the amount does not matter…focus onQUALITY!
Almost every site that’s legit on the Internet serves some type of useful purpose to it’s audience. Google allows you to find great websites, Facebook allows you to stay in touch with the people you love, and Youtube provides entertainment, tutorials, product reviews and much more. There are tons of useful sites online. Now the question to ask yourself is, whether or not your site is about helping people fill a need. If the answer is no, why should people even care about you? I don’t mean to be harsh but everybody that’s active online is only thinking about how they can benefit or what’s in it for them. So if you have the ability to give people what they want, you can have whatever you want.
Being a guest blogger has many benefits. One of those benefits is that you get traffic from relevant sites. It is also a great way to get links with anchor text around keywords that you’re trying to rank for. So in simple terms, when you write free articles for another website, they’re more than willing to give you a backlink in return.
Google loves unique content. You don’t want a page linking to your site that has a lot of worthless, crappy content. You will not see any results from this. You want to make sure that you’re getting links from unique articles on websites with a Page Rank that is more than 4.
So What Are Some Resources I Can Use For Building Backlinks?
Use Article Links! These work very well and are quite simple to build. All you need to do is create a few useful articles and publish them in Article Directories. Now, a few of my favorites are Ezine articles, Go Articles and Article Dashboard. Since these sites are the most trusted, you will find that your article will have an opportunity to rank very well and quite quickly. This strategy is very effective but there are still many people that do not implement this. This is partly due to the fact that people think they will need to write hundreds of articles and post them manually to all the directories in which some do unfortunately. I use this strategy every single day but the difference is that I use tools in which allows me to get thousands of backlinks within a matter of minutes.
