How To Blog – The Ultimate Guide To Profitable Blogging

How To Blog

Blogging, a huge subject I’ve been meaning to talk about for some time now. Before I begin, I want you to know that this article will be a little different. As I started writing this, I realised I could continue writing for about a week. So this will be a detailed tutorial on exactly how you can explode your business with a blog. So what the heck is blogging and why should you care? Well, blogging is defined as frequently updating a blog. And a blog is basically a website that get’s frequently updated. Anyway, you didn’t come here to learn the definition of blogging. You came here to learn how to blog for MASSIVE online profits.

Whether you’re a small time Internet Marketer, a Networker like me or you run an offline business… Blogging can greatly enhance your business in several ways. It can help you brand your business, generating leads, customers and so on. The possibilities are truly endless when it comes to blogging.

If you know how, you can turn your blog into a semi automated money making machine. (No Joke) Anyways… If you are to learn from this post, you must run a blog and be involved in a business. If you’re just a personal blogger who wants to attract more traffic, keep reading as you can still learn from this.

Basically, blogging has been around for a little over 10 years. How blogging started, I have no idea. Although, I know that blogs started off as personal websites just like this one. Over the years, blogging has evolved and just about everyone and their grandmother runs one. If you own a company and don’t have a website or blog, you look kinda stupid.

Sorry for going off on a rant, but I can’t control my writing LOL. Back to the point of this article, I want to show you exactly how you can use blogs to literally explode your business. It’s amazing how many businesses have their own websites and blogs now. But, it seems like none of them have a clue how to use them!

So, if you’re trying to grow your business with a blog, you should have three objectives. More like two, but the third one counts in my book. You want to generate traffic, leads and ultimately more customers for your business. As that’s how we make money. So how does the process work? Well, your blog converts traffic into leads which then fuels your funnel. And your funnel should convert your leads into sales.

What’s so magical about running a blog is that the entire process can be automated! The traffic generation, the lead generation and sales! It’s quite amazing what the Internet can do ya know. Ok, so how do you take full advantage of the Internet and use your blog to explode your business? Well, five things really. Starting out with a proper blog, solid keyword research, good content, link building and list building…

You need a proper blog dammit! You know how many people say “but David, why can’t I use something free like blogger?”, way too many people! I am not even going to explain this, it’s common sense. You need your own professional domain and you need a nice WordPress theme. They are almost free and you can have a proper blog up and running for like $15.

Once you have everything setup, theme installed, plugins configured and all that. You need to do some keyword research. This part is where so many bloggers go wrong. If you want traffic, you have to target keywords. You can do keyword research with the Google Keyword tool in seconds. Why is this so important? Well, if you target the wrong keywords you’ll attract the wrong visitors. And if you attract the wrong visitors, your business won’t grow. It’s as simple as that, common sense. LOL

So how do you do keyword research for your blog? Well, this is where you need to either pay a marketing expert or whip out your wallet and buy some Internet Marketing courses. Or you could just learn from me, my webinars, my marketing list, or why not buy my products? They will fix all of your problems. (wink wink)

Anyways, just a little advice on picking some keywords for your blog. You want to pick keywords for the long run. You and your blog will be around for a long time. You don’t have to instantly rank for a ton of highly searched keywords in order to make blogging worth while. Just remember what blogging is all about. (frequently updating) Meaning you should update your blog with fresh content all the time. (more on that later)

So whatever industry your in, pick your little sub niche you can categorize your business under and plonk the word into Google’s Keyword tool which I linked to above. From there you can sort out the keywords by most searched… And from there you can run checks on the keyword’s competition using this little tool… Traffic Travis (free)

I don’t use those tools any more, but they were great help when I got started. So once you have a few potentially profitable keywords, you can optimize your blog for them in seconds. With the help of the all in one SEO plugin, you can do this very quickly.

The next thing you need to do is add some quality content to your blog. If your content sucks, you won’t be receiving any repeat visitors. Repeat visitors are very important! Depending on your niche, you might not be able to write blog posts all day long…. And if you’re not somewhat passionate about your niche, go find another business as this part will be tough.

The cool thing about blogs is that every piece of content you add, will attract some visitors. Even without all the backlinks, social SEO and all that, Google will send some traffic your way. With that being said, if you take advantage of my next few tips, every piece of content you post will attract a flood of server crushing traffic!

Think of your blog as an investment. It only gets better over time. If you devote 30 minutes to an hour of your time every day into writing new content for your blog… In a year’s time you will practically have a novel’s worth of content. Something else to remember is that you should be proud of your blog, so make sure everything you put on there is of the highest quality. As it’s only a reflection of yourself!

As I was saying, your traffic flow with grow as you post more content. I am not saying that if you start adding a load of content to your blog you’ll start receiving thousands of visitors. As that probably won’t happen. In order to get your content ranked in the search engines and in order to attract lots of free traffic, you must build backlinks. So… with a few backlinks you’ll be able to grow your traffic flow with every post you make!

So what’s the biggest secret of the most successful blogs? Blog posts, blog posts and more blog posts! For every post you make, you will attract some traffic. Here is the real secret. You need to do keyword research for every blog post you make! It’s quite amazing actually. If you were to start a blog about Internet Marketing and you just started writing posts… (this is what most people do)

If you titled the posts randomly, made up descriptions and entered relevant keywords, you wouldn’t generate much traffic. From around 100 posts of unique, you might get up to 20-200 visitors a day. Now this is exactly what the majority of bloggers do and it’s why most people fail.

The next group of people will do keyword research for every post they make. They will target keywords with a decent amount of searches and they will write quality articles. Then… this is where people are stunned… They don’t receive any traffic!! Why? Well, it’s pretty much common sense. There are a thousand other marketers out there targeting the same keywords.

So if you want to beat the competition and land on the first page of Google for the keyword’s you choose, you must build backlinks. And… That’s the secret recipe people… Keyword research > Quality Optimized Content > Backlinks > Traffic > Leads > Sales! As I was saying, there are 3 sets of bloggers. Bloggers who write tons of quality content and don’t even know how to do keyword research. Bloggers who write quality content and optimize their content for keywords, but have no idea how to rank. And… Lastly there are bloggers who write quality content, optimize for the right keywords and dominate the search engines.

It’s real simple guys, write quality content > optimize for profitable keywords > build backlinks, rank and enjoy the profits. I’m not going to write another essay on backlinks and how to build them, as that would be stupid. I already did that the other day so you can read all about backlinks and how to build them right here. Enjoy :)

So how do you build a profit pulling, lead generating and customer getting blog? Well, like I said you need a poper blog which I explained how to get. Next you need lots of solid content. You need to optimize every blog post you make for a profitable keyword and you need to build backlinks. Which I explained how to do in the other blog post. So now you know exactly how to start generating traffic.

The next part of the formula is about lead generation. If you’re driving traffic to your blog which tries to sell your end product, big mistake! You need to make the most of every visitor. How do you do this? Well, you build an email list using Aweber or another autoresponder. This allows you to collect visitor’s information and build an enormous list of potential clients or customers.

With list building, it’s like having perpetual visitors. As once you get a visitor on your list, you can pitch them or tell them to go checkout your new blog post any time you like. The real masters of Internet Marketing know that the money IS in fact in the list. As much as that quote is annoying, it’s so true. Most importantly, with list building you’re building a list of prospects for your business… A list of repeat buyers and visitors.

If you’re just pitching your product or opportunity on your blog, most people will ignore you. It’s actually bad business! Believe it or not, it makes you look bad, not to mention unprofessional! However, with your list, you can slowly build up a rapport with your subscribers. Slowly gaining their trust over a period of time whilst feeding them quality and helpful information for free.

And… Once you gain their trust, it’s pitching time. Depending on your business, this will work differently. Although, if you’re an Internet or Network marketer like me, you can do some magical things with an email list and a webinar. You can host a webinar, send out 1 email to your list and drive thousands of interested prospects to your sales presentation. And… If you’re a plumber, dentist or whatever, you can collect visitor’s phone number’s and go from there. So that’s the magical blogging formula which maybe a few thousand bloggers know how to use. Just remember the five step formula and your blog’s traffic will skyrocket along with your lead flow and customers!

In Prosperity,

David Wood

Thanks Dave! I'm glad I found this post. I'm just getting started and was doing it wrong. Good thing I'm at the beginning. Now I can "turn right" and get to it this way.

Hey great post man! I love how people always want something complicated and easy, rather than simple and hard. It's always the simple stuff that works the best. You can't forget to build the foundation and expect your house to stand! K.I.S.S. lol
