Breaking The Poison Myths – What ACTUALLY Creates The Magic?

Watching all kinds of fascinating things unfold, in every moment – it makes me marvel in fascination, as I see people both making the same mistakes…
…again, and again – and seeing yet others create more success and prosperity now than they ever have in the past.
I believe that the biggest problem in creating income now for people in your business, is not the particular strategy that is being used to build it, it’s the actual philosophy of why you’re doing those things that matters, and is going to create the result that you’re getting, or not getting right now.
When I got started in my business, I was exposed to philosophies and strategies that couldn’t have created anything magical – unless I was relying on luck to step into my vision, rather than knowing that there’s a skill and a process that I can follow to predictably succeed, virtually instantly in my business.
Let me share some of the poison philosophies that people have, and a better way of thinking:
Poison Philosophy 1:
If you just sponsor 5, they’ll get 5, and they’ll get 5 – and 7 levels down, you’ve got 78,125 people in your team. Even if you only earned a measly dollar a piece, you’d be earning $78,125 per month – for just getting 5 people and duplicating a simple system now.
The problem with this – is that even if it did work some of the time (I’ve heard stories) the pitch is pre-framing your prospects, and yourself to rely on luck and other people to create success. Even if the pitch works in a hotel to get people to buy now, you’re framing your business like a lottery, where the end result isn’t based on a vision, skill, and process – it’s based in ‘who are 5 people who you know…’
The other problem is – that the actual strategy is unpredictable in it’s ability to produce income. You might get 5, who all take off – you might get 50 and nobody takes off. Immediately upon failing at producing the promised result after getting 5 people who don’t make you rich instantly, you’re going to think that it’s the system that’s screwed up – not decide to take responsibility for your results.
The frame is all wrong from the start – we shouldn’t be telling people that if they can only get 5 people – they’ll be rich instantly. It’s just not true most of the time, and I don’t know about you – for me, the only luck that I’m interested in is the luck that I’m responsible for creating through a process that I can replicate through thousands of other people.
The CURE for this poison, is embracing a production based success model – where YOU are responsible for creating the entirety of your own results, and through your own production, you create a full time, desirable income. Then, when you take that income and replicate the WHOLE MODEL in a single other person, not only do they produce the same results with no real duplication, your income increases dramatically by replicating your success – and in the middle of growth – you can still earn a ridonculous income if nobody replicates you at all.
In Empower Network – I teach people to sponsor 2 new customers a day. Because if you do that, I know that it is incredibly simple to create a relatively profound income, regardless of whether you know how it’s working or not. Then we replicate that, once you’re doing it through systems – I have people earning $20,000 a month who literally don’t have a remote clue on ‘why’ it’s working at all – they’re just getting 2 customers a day and following some simple steps. I actually tell people specifically to NOT do any training whatsoever, create team sites, or try to replicate themselves in the slightest until their income is already more than $30,000 a month. Unfortunately, not everyone listens – maybe you could do that now.
* Special note: I don’t gamble, or recommend you bet your life on odds. Even though some people are creating extraordinary results, some people aren’t. You’ve got to work hard, listen, and learn some skills to replicate that kind of production.
Poison Philosophy 2:
There’s only one way to sell and recruit. Only attraction marketing. Only cold calling. Only warm market. Only newspaper ads. Only home meetings. Only hiring a midget in a bikini to hold a ‘join now’ sign on a street corner. Only 3rd party tools. Only 3 way calls.
I went through several levels of brutality in my life because of thinking that everything had to be done an exact, certain way. I went through years of doubting myself because internally I had to ‘know the truth’ because of my religious upbringing. I’m not saying that’s right – or not right, I’m pointing out the futility in trying to be right about everything all the time.
There’s not one way to recruit and sell. There’s lots of ways. The question is, are you doing it in a way that you like? and therefore, can you continue to do it? Because I promise you, if you don’t like it, you won’t keep doing it. You need to sell and recruit a LOT of stuff to get the result that you want (see point 1).
The fact that Todd Falcone recruits out of the Yellow Pages, Eric Worre recruits by passing out DVD’s and doing 3 way calls, I recruit without any prospecting, follow up, or phone calls, Mark Yarnell recruits by pure ruthlessness, and Shaqir Hussyin recruits by hitting a ‘send’ button should show you that lots of things work well. A lot of things duplicate well, too. In fact, in the Master’s Course at Empower Network, I teach how you can take any complex behavior or strategy and duplicate it through hundreds of thousands of people.
There are lots of things that work. None of them work for everyone. Everyone is different. Everything can duplicate. Had they told me I could use my creativity in Amway, rather than telling me to be like everyone else to succeed – I would have gone diamond in Amway. But I was told to be duplicable. I wasn’t told why things duplicate. I was told to wear a suit and tie. I wasn’t told that I could walk barefoot on stage and produce an even more magical result – because the training was missing the actual source of the magic.
Lots of things work. The question is – do you know why? Is it something that you WANT to do?
I’m good on the phone – really good. Every year or so, I still pick up the phone and recruit someone, just for kicks sake, to see if I still got it. I do. However, I don’t like it. I like writing and making videos. I recruit like that, and it works better for me.
It might work better for you, too. I have a philosophy, where I give people the tools, teach them what to PRODUCE, and let them do it however their own unconscious resources guide them to do it. Because of that, I have people succeeding in all kinds of miraculous ways. Of course, the reasons why are in the Masters Course at Empower Network, if you’re interested in learning them, I’d pick that up. The information is worth millions of dollars.
Poison Philosophy 3:
This is the big one. I’ll save it for a future article, this post is long enough. I’ll tell you though – you will discover the third source of poison, and the cure – when you put your name and email in the form below this article, and pay attention closely as you watch the video on the next page.
As you’re watching the video, after you put your name and email in the form – leave me your thoughts in the comments on what the third source of poison is in your business. I’m curious if you can guess it, or figure it out, before I publish part 2.
Let me know your thoughts.

Poison 3: People jump from one method to another too soon to make it work. Just like jumping from one shining object to the next before making it work; this vicious cycle continues for the 97% of the failure; 3%…work the method; process and system until it works successfully… Do not believe in Self is the greatest BS for failure.

Most people really try doing this and it causes them to fail because they get tied up in doing too many things at once and lose focus so easily…just have to be patient and things will fall into place..

Putting my name and email in the form is my third poison 😀

Dave, thanks a TON. I was actually one of they Guys trying to do a team site for my team of only 42 people – earning $700/month. I was trying to show them how they can “succeed” to my level without realizing that I’m actually hurting them and their true potential. If it takes me 1 year to start getting 2 new customers per day, its worth it – if it takes 5 years it’s still worth it. I’ve begun to understand what you’re saying. Get 2 new customers per day… I agree with this philosophy… Thanks Dave.

Great post Dave, most of the comp plans out there only look good on paper.

I’ve been guilty of trying to get rich quick by just recruiting a few people and hoping they would do the same. Your article helped me realize that success requires consistent effort and a proper mindset. Appreciate the advice!

The point about embracing a production-based success model resonated with me. It’s crucial to take responsibility for our own results and not rely on luck. I’ll definitely be applying this to my business strategies. Thanks, David!

Great read! The examples you provided made it clear why some business philosophies don’t work. It’s all about the mindset and the process. Looking forward to part 2!

I never thought about how detrimental it could be to frame business like a lottery. Your advice on focusing on replicable processes rather than luck is invaluable. Can’t wait to see more content from you!
