4 Stupidly Simple Link Building Techniques For 2012

Over the past few months, the SEO landscape has changed dramatically. Everyone heard about the Penguin update and of course all the Pandas before.

SEO has never before been like it is today.

After the Penguin update, thousands of SEOs and webmasters have literally given up. They no longer do SEO because the Penguin update was one setback too far. While I personally believe every setback is just a challenge, I can understand why so many people quit.

So what this has done is put a lot of people out of business and cleared the results a little. Meaning it’s become easier for us to outrank competitors using the right strategies because a lot of them have stopped building links.

It’s leveled the playing field in a sense. Anyway, a lot of the strategies that used to work no longer do. A lot of the black hat strategies i.e., spamming out terribly spun content etc., no longer work. That’s the big one, spun content backlinks.

Most SEOs have always taught you to spin your articles and to submit them to as many sites as possible. As well as it worked, it just doesn’t anymore. You have to be more picky about which sites you choose to submit to and you need to spend more time creating high-quality content.

As ultimately good content is what Google and the other search engines want and what their users deserve. By automatically spinning and submitting content, you’re just spamming the Internet. You’re just making it worse than it already is and unfair for the people who land on your B.S. stuff.

So here are a couple of link-building techniques for 2012 and beyond:

1. Manual web2.0’s

Manual web2.0’s are just web2.0’s that are manually built. By manually I mean by hand. Web2.0’s are little user-built sites either on subfolders subdomains on massive authority sites. Sites like Hubpages, Blogger, WordPress.com, and Squidoo.

Traditionally, you would write an article, spin it, and use a tool like Senuke (checked as of July, 2024) to distribute different variations of the article onto each of the sites. Therefore creating “unique” backlinks on a whole load of web2.0 sites.

The problem is the content you put out on those web2.0’s would be terrible and barely readable by a living creature. Google is getting better and better at identifying spun content and unless you hand spin every word – it’s not worth it.

You will get far greater results and a better night’s sleep if you manually build them. This means writing 1 or more articles for each web2.0 backlink you build. If you strategically link out to your site within the web2.0’s – you will get people reading them and directly visiting your site. Manual web2.0’s rank well in the search engines so you can use them to target keywords.

2. Manual article directory links

Article directories like EzineArticles.com and ArticleBase (checked as of July, 2024) have a lot of authority and potential to drive traffic directly to your site. By blackhattingly spinning articles and blasting them to article directories, you’re getting a lot of links.

But the quality of those articles will all be terrible and they definitely won’t send you any direct traffic. The point of article marketing isn’t to build links, but to drive traffic. So you should think of using article directories for article marketing instead of damn link building.

SEOs have a tendency for only caring about links. To them, it’s all about building links and ranking in the search engines. When there is greater leverage and safety in building links to drive traffic – not to boost rankings.

So write each article by hand, target a keyword with each one, and submit it to one directory. NO SPINNING. In your author resource boxes, you can write a compelling sentence to drive readers to your website.

If your articles are good and they target low-medium competition keywords – they’ll rank and send you direct traffic. (As well as boost your rankings)

3. High PR blog commenting

Blog commenting is one of the oldest tricks in the book and a strategy many sneer at. Blackhatters kind of ruined blog commenting because they built their toys to spam millions of them at a time. Instead of mass blog commenting, you should leave meaningful and thoughtful comments.

Comments that add to the posts and conversations. The key is to leave these comments on high authority and high traffic blogs on a regular basis. The more and more you comment, the more and more likely the other regular visitors will check out your site.

Also, high Page Rank blog commenting is king. By commenting on brand new blog posts on high traffic blogs, you accomplish this too. The posts may initially have a Page Rank of N/A, but they will soon get boosted to PR2, 3 or maybe 4 and above.

4. Home Page Backlinks

SEOs have been using home page backlinks since the very beginning. While some may argue they are extinct and no longer work – I beg to differ. There are a few types of home page backlinks. The two most commonly used backlinks are:

  1. Blogroll or Sidebar Links
  2. Contextual Links

Now blogroll links are well and truly dead. Back in the day, bloggers would just link to each other’s blogs in each other’s sidebars using a blogroll widget. It actually worked for a long time and it made a lot of people very wealthy. (or just gave them top rankings)

Then there are contextual links which are the links that still work extremely well today. The problem with home page backlinks is that it’s risky business. If your network of sites gets found, Google will de-index them, rip apart their Page Rank, and punish you. (harsh I know)

All you have to do is buy say 25 high Page Rank domains. I would go for PR2 and above. You don’t really want home page backlinks from sites that are any lower than that. Once you have them, you need to privately register them (when buying) and then host each one on its own privately owned IP address.

You can do this via SEO hosting (just Google it). Once they are all registered and hosted, just set up WordPress on all of them. The trick is to keep all of the sites about 1 topic, the topic of the site or preferably sites they are promoting.

Next, you need to write 400+ word blog posts (max 6) and contextually link to your money site/s within them using your desired keywords as anchor text. Once they are all published you just need to set the posts up to be displayed completely on the home pages. So you have all of the links showing 24/7 on the homepages of the high PR domains.

Do this and you will be shocked at how easily you rank. The top guys ranking for “weight loss” and “how to lose weight” are ranking there from solely 50 or so home page backlinks (seriously nothing else).

Dave –
Your a beast, dude! I wish they hadn’t rolled out (or back) with the Penguin update. It really messed a bunch of people up.
Commenting high-ranking blogs and blowing out content rich, original articles is still the way to go. It has been proven to work…except its a lot of work. Oh well, I guess the lazy people are gonna start getting a work out.
Take care, man. Keep rockin!

I have to say, you are the master when it comes to SEO. Is there any company that you would recommend outsourcing this stuff to so that authors can spend more time creating good content instead of always having to research and learn new SEO tactics?
