What To Do With A Low Cost Link Building Budget

Low Cost Link BuildingWe all know that link building is the key ingredient to high search engine rankings. Great content and good on-page SEO is one thing, but it’s not going to get you to the top of the search engines. Not unless you’ve already got an authority website. Let me explain….

In the beginning when your site is brand new, SEO is everything. It’s really the easiest way to get traffic apart from social media. Once the traffic is flowing you can focus on everything else. Stuff like social media, referral and direct traffic type stuff.

Anyway, let’s talk about link building and what you can do with a low cost link building budget of $300. Really, you need at least $300 to get a few tools. You can do without them, but they’re what I would purchase on a low link building budget. Here’s what to do:

1. Article Marketing/Content Marketing

Article marketing is completely free, and it works very well in terms of link building. Over the last couple of months, it appears that article directory backlinks have become less effective. Saying that, whenever I submit a load of articles to directories I always see a boost in rankings.

You can manually write and submit your articles 1 at a time. Or you can spin them using a tool like The Best Spinner and submit unique variations of the same article to each directory. In this list I found there are also web2.0 sites like Squidoo and Hubpages. Web2.0′s are completely different to article directories. You can basically create your own page/website on them via a sub domain/folder.

They are great for link building. You use them in the same way you use article directories. Create accounts on them, create a site/page, add your content and link to your website – publish. Remember your articles and web2.0′s can rank in the search engines and be used to drive traffic to your website. Here’s a list of directories and web2.0 sites you can use to build links on:

knol.google.com ehow.com squidoo.com ezinearticles.com hubpages.com examiner.com articlesbase.com technorati.com seekingalpha.com associatedcontent.com buzzle.com suite101.com gather.com goarticles.com brighthub.com ezinemark.com selfgrowth.com helium.com pubarticles.com thefreelibrary.com articlesnatch.com ideamarketers.com articlealley.com infobarrel.com

2. Blog Commenting

Blog commenting is a powerful way of promoting your site. You not only gain backlinks, but exposure and traffic. Really you want to leave comments on the top 10-20 blogs in your niche that are completely relevant to your website. Don’t go commenting on random blogs that have nothing to do with your niche. You can read my complete guide to successful blog commenting right here.

Just remember – leave comments on relevant, active and high Page Rank blogs. Read the post for more info.

3. Guest Blogging

Guest blogging is a super powerful strategy you can use to promote your site. By posting blog posts on other blogs in your niche, you can gain high quality backlinks, lots of traffic, subscribers and exposure. It’s a very easy strategy, but you will have to write high quality blog posts so it’s fairly time consuming. You can read my complete guide to guest blogging here.

4. Social Media & Bookmarking

Social media is its own thing, totally separate from the world of link building. It can be used to make your site more social which is an essential part of website promotion right now. It can also be used for traffic generation, branding and of course link building. It’s actually quite easy to set your social media up on autopilot which I’ll go into in a second… Then there’s bookmarking which is sort of social link building. You can bookmark your site and your latest blog posts if you’ve got a blog on sites like Digg, StumbleUpon and Reddit.

To build links with social media, you need to encourage sharing. Sharing on mainly Facebook, Twitter and Google plus. You can do this by adding several sharing icons to your website. A Facebook share, Tweet and G+ button will do. Besides that whenever you publish something new on your website, make sure you share it on the 3 social networks. A more automated approach would be to use Ping.fm to share your content on over 30 social networks with 1 click.

5. Article Marketing Robot – $97

This is one of those tools you just need. Article marketing is an essential part of SEO. If you had an unlimited budget, I would tell you to go join a load of blog networks like Unique Article Wizard and Article Ranks. As right now they are very effective. Since this is all about building links on a low budget, article marketing robot is the perfect option. It has several hundred WordPress blogs built into it. So it has its own mini blog network installed in the software on top of the thousands of article directories it submits to. Great tool and very effective if used correctly.

6. Market Samurai – $100

Market Samurai is one of those must have tools every Internet Marketer simply needs. It’s got so much great feedback and has so many cool features that you’d be stupid not to buy it. It’s known its keyword research abilities, but is also great for link building.

It will help you reverse engineer your competitors so you can easily outrank them. It will help you locate link opportunities and leave blog comments on high PR pages. It’s also incredible for perfecting your on-page SEO along with many other features, it’s a must have for any beginner to advanced marketer.

7. Scrapebox – $97

There really aren’t that many tools you can pick up for a onetime cost below a few hundred bucks. Scrapebox however is one of those tools and it’s insanely powerful. I’ve never come across anything that has so many features as Scrapebox. I talk a lot about Scrapebox in my post “The 4 Best SEO Tools“, so go check that out if you want the details in full.

Mainly you can use it to post blog comments, scrape URL’s and blast the crap out of your other backlinks. That’s what most people use Scrapebox for, just blasting other backlinks with thousands of blog comment links. This increases their power and gets them firmly indexed in the search engines.

So those are the 3 tools I would personally invest in with a $300 link building budget and some totally free strategies you can start implementing with no money down.

In Prosperity,

David Wood

Scrapebox is a great tool to get "backlinks to your backlinks" but not something you should use to shoot crappy backlinks directly to your site. I like how you made that clear, you sure know your stuff Dave, great post!

Thanks for making this post, Dave. I've leaned a ton from it. I wasn't aware that you could simultaneously share your content to about 30 social networks using ping.fm. That's awesome. Building links back to your website or blog is an art that takes time. It's a process. You have to be patient because you won't see an influx of traffic overnight. It's all about the little things you do consistently day in and day out. Thanks for sharing.

Hi David great article, thanks for sharing these great tools for better SEO. Articles Marketing yet is a great source of traffic, social media are also an excellent source of traffic, but I think that video marketing is that is revolutionizing the market. Today the power of video is so great and helps to position in our niche market. Thank you for sharing this information, greetings from Mexico

There's some heavy duty tools there, but I have certainly noticed an increase in my blog traffic and links since I started using AMR and social media syndication services such as TribePro, Social Monkee and IM Automator. I have yet to try Market Samurai as until now, I had heard mixed reviews. Some great tips there and one that some people may not pick up on - deep linking from one post on your blog to another - exactly as you have done here ;). Google loves it. As always, thanks for your insights, Nicky

Article marketing and commenting are free, and both are easy ways to leverage your presence online. A beginner can use each strategy from Day 1. Once you make a commitment to becoming a better writer, you can grow your home biz quite nicely. Thanks for sharing your insight Dave! RB
