Online Originality- Free blogs vs Replicated Sites

Online originality is a key component to building a successful business on the internet. A lot of network marketers are using the internet to generate leads and to expand their warm market. One of the problems network marketers face when they get online is that they don’t separate themselves from the rest of the marketers out there. All the major network marketing companies offer their distributors a replicated website. Replicated sites do have their place but most mlmer’s don’t expand beyond their company’s cookie-cutter webpage. In this article I’ll be covering free blogs and why you should build a rapport before you send people to your replicated site.

Establishing a personalized brand and getting a free blog will put you ahead of a lot of the marketers on the internet. One of the down falls of only using a replicated website is that you don’t have much control over what kind of content is on it. I’m sure you can write a bio or personalize your replicated site to some extent, but a free blog will give you far more freedom. Creating a website that people can relate to is important. When you send people to a replicated site, you don’t give them a lot to make a connection with, except for your company.

Marketing on the internet isn’t about pushing products and getting sign ups. Before you can make a sale or get someone to join you in your business you have to create a connection. People have to trust you before they will buy from you or get into business with you. A good way to build trust and make a connection is to let people see who you are. A free blog will help you build trust and make that connection with your visitors a hundred times better than a replicated site will. A free blog is a great place to start, but eventually you will want to have your own self-hosted website. You will have even more freedom and even more ways to personalize a self-hosted blog as opposed to a free account, but for now a free blog will do.

Unless you’re sending out a bunch of links, you probably won’t get very many visitors going to your replicated site on their own. Replicated sites have duplicate content on them and the search engines don’t like sites with a bunch of  the same content on them, so it’s almost impossible to get traffic to a replicated site from the search engines. Not only is it difficult for people to find a replicated site, but when most people see a duplicated website they almost instantly move on to something else. Search engines like online originality and so do the people who use them, so if you want to have a successful online business don’t be afraid to be different.

Replicated sites aren’t all bad. There is a time and a place to send someone to your company webpage, but first you have to create a connection and develop trust. Having a way for people to see who you are is the first step. Then you have to create trust through offering them something of value for free. The next step is to break the ice by offering an e-book, a training course or anything of value for a small price like $10.00 or less. Eventually the people who are interested in YOU and what you have to offer will be happy to watch a presentation and check out your replicated site.

Awesome post, Eric. You're right on. Having a free self-hosted blog helps to brand you and affords you to make the connection with your prospect by offering them something of value to make them open to looking at what you have to offer down the line. It also allows you to make a personal connection with your prospects. Now if your prospects comment on your blog posts, you have access to their email addresses so you can search for them online on social networks and connecting with them some more. Thanks for posting this and helping someone out there that needs to know.

Having a free blog on sites such as wordpress.com or blogger.com is more of a waste of time than it is a help. The whole point of having a blog is to gather people's contact information. Those sites don't allow for any integration of an optin form. I say skip ahead to getting a selfhosted blog. Some hosting services now cost less than $5 a month. Too often a free blog will get shut down for writing content that is related to working from home.

It's all about getting out there and getting busy Etieno! Like Stephanie said a cheap self hosted blog works the best and ultimately that's what you want but I always say one is better than none.

I agree Stephanie, but a free blog is better than a cookie cutter website. I'm just saying a free blog would be more effective at building rapport than a replicated site. Personally I started out with a self hosted website because as you know having your own blog is the best solution. Thanks for the feed back.
