Today’s post is a little different. This is a tribute to the innovators of our industry and the creators of the original MLM systems that almost every successful MLM organization in the world has been based off of. They have the largest, most stable organizations in the history of our industry, and are more than three times the size of the next closest MLM giant.

That’s right my friends, business history was changed and inspired by none other than Amway.

(No, I’m not in Amway)…

…but I think that they’re pretty cool.

Ever since then, this has been my favorite audio I’ve ever listened to, and I’ve probably listened to it 200 times. When I built my first successful organization offline, I used to listen to this tape driving to every meeting I did for almost 2 years, just to get pumped.

I just popped it in the other day again, and decided it was time for the world to hear. This is going to probably be the only place you’ll ever find this, because I had to transfer it from a ratted out 1980’s audio tape to MP3… It’s about 3-4 hours, but you’ll be inspired to an entirely new level if you take the time to listen, because what Amway has done better than any company in the world has been to ‘Build the Dream’…

Why I Won’t Join Your Deal

Five O’Clock AM….

The phone rings, and there’s EXCITEMENT in the receiver…

It’s one of my best friends, I’ll call her ‘Mrs. New Deal‘, and she had just came out of a negative experience in the MLM industry when we had gotten together the night before for a reunion dinner with some old veterans from a company that had just fell apart for both of us.

I had listened to her drown on about how much she’s glad that God ‘delivered‘ her from the MLM industry and how thankful she is that she’s no longer focused on money, and how much better she feels now that’s she’s free to be poor.

A little bit of background here: We had spent nearly 2 years together building a large organization in a company, done weekly meetings and home meetings together, collectively recruited nearly 1000 people, and been through A LOT of fun times and struggles in the MLM industry.

So here I am massively succeeding in my company, earning checks of… (A LOT)… and I’m holding my tongue and listening to a 2 hour drunkalogue about how much the MLM profession sucks.

(isn’t that what we do… Listen?)

Well, I’m fine with people thinking what they want, because at the end of the day I’ve got a better lifestyle than 100% of any of the people I grew up with, I have more time freedom than any professional person I know AND I make more money than I’ve ever made, but nothing could have prepared me for what I experienced at 5 AM the next day…

“David, oh my gosh, OH MY GOSH, OH MY GOSH!!!” says ‘Mrs. New Deal‘ “I’m in this new exciting DEAL, where you earn an extra 2% on the fifth level, and YOU ONLY HAVE TO GET 3 PEOPLE and you’re rich”…

Well, excuse me if I want to puke… but is there any honest network marketing business where ANYONE has legitimately sponsored only 3 people and gotten rich?

No.

She continued… “Not only that… but it’s NOT MLM! All you have to do is get 3 people, and THEY get 3 people… and THEY get 3 people…and YOU’RE RICH almost overnight!”

So excuse me for wanting to puke… but what kind of business is it when 3 people get 3, who get 3? Hmmm… I didn’t think it was ‘MLM’ either…

Well, to make a long story short, I didn’t join her deal.

Now, it’s business time… You may be wondering why I didn’t join that deal, and why I won’t join yours, either. FIVE or more times a day, I get an email that looks something like this:

“David, this is Mr. Big and Famous Hotshot. I know we’ve never met, but I’m building an organization in a Pre-Launch Super-Deal that’s going to be the next Amway (but better, of course)… I’ve got a spot reserved for you at the top of the comp plan with GUARANTEED income, and all you have to do is join and bring over your organization. Not only will you make a fortune, but you can get in at the top… blah blah blah… Click here to signup and buy X product to get rich…”

You know, there’s this funny phenomenon in Network Marketing, where people assume that you’ll for some reason join their program from their spam email, canned scripts, and because the company is “New” and you can “get in at the top”

Here’s the funny thing… You know the hot-shots that we always talk about who are ACTUALLY pulling in six figure monthly checks from a LEGITIMATE MLM company?

Guess what 100% of them all have in common…

They are absolutely UNMOVABLE in their resolve to prosper in Network Marketing, and they LOVE their company with a passion. They can’t be bought, sold, moved, and they won’t quit and whore away to your deal because you send them unrequested SPAM.

There was a funny statistic I learned from Mark Yarnell, and I think this is a funny industry. You see, more than 95% of ACTIVE distributors who STICK with one company for 10 years or more are six figure earners. That is a HUGE statistic my friends.

Do you realize that a six figure income built right in a legitimate Network Marketing company takes less than 10 hours a week to maintain, and only about 20 hours a week to grow?

That means that the reason why most people who read this blog post are going to fail in Network Marketing isn’t because they don’t have the ability to succeed, because statistics PROVE otherwise, it’s because they’ll QUIT or jump to a new deal before they ever learn to prosper.

Do you know how many industries produce six figure earners from 95% of the people who stick around for 10 years or more?

There’s not a profession in the world that produces as many six figure residual earners in the SHEER amounts that are created in Network Marketing. It is COMPLETELY unique as an industry. So stick with your damn company and stop trying to recruit me into stupid deals.

Lol.

Seriously, people.

The TRUTH is that there are A LOT of good companies out there, so make a decision and figure out how to make your team in that company grow like crazy.

The reason that your company isn’t working isn’t because the comp plan is broken, or the tools aren’t good enough, or that it’s not a pre-launch. The reason is because YOU need to learn some skills and figure it out.

Yes, take some time. RESEARCH leadership. Connect with a real MENTOR and choose your company wisely. Meet with some distributors who UNDERSTAND Network Marketing and find something that you BELIEVE in and is TRANSFORMATIONAL.

But for heavens sake, stop giving our industry a bad name by hopping from deal to deal looking for that ‘golden spoon‘. I found an MLM the other day that sells a magic new age ‘healing rod’ and it pays out 99% of it’s volume. It’s never been done before, and if you get five people to buy 3 magic crystals month, you permanently lock your spot in the force 5X5 matrix and you get to wear tie dies and sandals for the rest of your life…

Ha ha.

You CREATE your own destiny in Network Marketing, and it’s more who YOU are and your INTEGRITY than it is about the company (although the company DOES matter)…

I know people in Network Marketing that make more than $600,000 per month, and you know how many of them did it by hopping from deal to deal?

None.

Have a VISION. Be a LEADER. TAKEOVER your company, and above all, be consistent and be UNMOVABLE in your resolve to take it to the top.

I appreciate all of you, and I want you to prosper.

But it’s time for the TRUTH about this industry to come out.

The TRUTH is that what is going to TRANSFORM your destiny in this industry is YOU.

Is It REALLY Possible To Grow A Seven Figure Residual Income In Network Marketing Using NOTHING But The Internet? (Not Really)

The advent of the internet has brought to the marketplace an entirely new breed of entrepreneurs… and with the new breed, while we are certainly still in the infancy of a new dawn of economics, has brought with it it’s own unique set of problems, as well as a whole new range of opportunity for the savvy business builder. However, I would like to address a SPECIFIC debate within the realm of the aspiring Network Marketer, and it’s that of the question:

Is it even POSSIBLE to create an ACTUAL seven figure residual income entirely online in the MLM industry?

I might surprise a bunch of you who are regular readers of my blog… but here goes:

The answer is… NO. It’s not.

“What???” Now before you high-tail it out of here, or contact the FTC and file a complaint that I’m telling you to go build a business by attacking your broke friends and warm market with the prospecting spear head, hear me out.

It’s important to understand what we’re doing, and not doing when we’re building a business online, and it’s also important that if we have a long term goal of passive wealth, that we not ignore the facts and the reality of both what exists and what doesn’t in our industry.

What DOES exist in our industry, and has existed for more than sixty years are thousands of people earning seven figure incomes who built their incomes almost entirely through business networking and warm market prospecting. What DOESN’T exist is ANYBODY who has created the same brand loyalty, RESIDUAL wealth, and leverage through ONLY the internet, or ONLY through any other kind of advertising.

In fact, most of the people I know online who make a lot of money make massive amounts of cash selling affiliate products, coaching programs, websites, and systems, but their ACTUAL residual income from a legitimate Network Marketing company is less than $10,000 per month. In fact, MOST of them have a residual income of less than $1,500 per month. (These are the top dogs, people)

Well, that’s cool, because they can still make fat amounts of cash selling their programs. In fact, the other day I saw a promising program online for sale called:

“How To Make Butt-Loads Of Cash Selling ‘How-To’ Courses To Network Marketers Without Ever Actually Being Successful In Network Marketing Yourself…” (I’m kidding, of course… sort of)

So where’s the disconnect? Why is it that people like Randy Gage are creating residual incomes of a couple of hundred thousand a month while the top dogs online jump ship from deal to deal looking for the magic bullet? (a whole new blog post is coming on that one…)

The answer is probably more simple than you would think, and it’s something that we need to address… Think about it like this:

Normally, for the last 60-70 years when you would get started in a Network Marketing company, your upline would give you some kind of advice like this:

“Talk to EVERYONE, your neighbors, your cat, the grocer, the local police department, illegal aliens, etc…. your goal is to SPONSOR no matter what, just get out there and TALK to people”

So when you get started, that’s exactly what you do… Now, this might not make you rich (really it depends how influential your sphere of influence is and how good you are at positioning yourself) but what it DOES do is get you sponsoring in your first week.

Compare that with what happens online. You get started and your sponsor tells you:

“Ok, you need to learn how to market yourself before you’re ever going to be successful… so set up your blog, set up your autoresponders, create a capture page, hire an article writer, learn how to be a guru, spend 4 hours a day chit-chatting on facebook, set up 14,000 affiliate accounts, and then FINALLY you’re ready to START….”

The problem is, that stuff takes so long and is so complicated, that MOST people will NEVER start. They’ll quit before they do anything. (Where in the traditional methods, the quitters still quit, but before they do they sponsor 5-10 people). What online marketers also tend to be quiet about is the fact that to be successful in online marketing, you CAN’T copy someone else, you have to learn how to be ENTIRELY unique. It will take most people six months to learn how to do if they are extremely aggressive.

As a result of this disconnect, distributors who build their businesses completely online have GIGANTIC frontlines and almost zero duplication in their teams, and they have the highest attrition rate of any business building method that exists. So what do they do? They assume that MLM is dead, duplication can’t happen, and so they jump to a program that doesn’t require anyone but themselves to be successful, hence the advent of ‘Top Tier’ programs.

The flawed philosophy of doing that is that people in traditional Network Marketing have incomes that completely trump top tier programs, and a way better quality of life. For example, in my last company, there are about 10 distributors with six figure monthly residuals, and about a thousand with healthy six figure annual residuals. Most of those people could drop dead and still make seven figures a year. Can you do that in a top tier program? No. You have to keep producing and selling $20k packages like a dog for the rest of your life.

So what’s the solution? It seems as if I’m harping on internet marketing as a way to build your business. I’m not. I just want ALL of us to realize that IN ADDITION to learning how to build our business online, let’s START sponsoring and building a team before we’re gurus, and get our teams doing the same thing.

Don’t ignore what’s worked for 70 years to try and build something that can’t be built. I think that if Network Marketing is going to have a future, we need to have a war cry, that we learn to EMBRACE traditional methods and get people STARTED doing something simple that they can IMMEDIATELY do, and then they can learn whatever marketing method they want as they go along.

I think a good war cry would be to simply talk to five people a day about your opportunity, no matter what.

Now, if you’ve learned how to generate leads and you want to talk to five people a day from your leads, cool. If you haven’t, prospect every day while you’re learning to market online. Who should you talk to? Anyone that you can practice with. You could meet people through business networking, social clubs, you could talk with people and build relationships on facebook, pick up a newspaper and look for social gatherings and just get out there and network, learn how to meet people in coffee shops… anywhere.

Mike Dillard’s famous book ‘Magnetic Sponsoring’ got us all focusing on learning the ‘Marketing’ of Network Marketing, but what about putting the ‘NETWORKING’ back in network marketing?

Why not market your business online at a coffee shop, and then just build relationships with other people that hang out? My first successful organization I built almost entirely through people I met in coffee shops (before the online days). I wasn’t pushy, and I didn’t go to the coffee shop dressed like an Amway distributor. I just made a lot of friends and as a result, I sponsored a lot of people.

Do I want you to abandon building your business online? No. There are things you can do through marketing that there is no possible way you can do in any other way. You can sponsor 40-50 people a month into any company like clockwork by learning some clever advertising. But do you want people in your team to HAVE to learn to be a marketing guru to be successful at all? I’m just telling you that if you want long term residuals, don’t ignore the traditional methods in your pursuit for online Guru-Hood.

Did you get burned out trying traditional methods? Maybe you were acting like an idiot to your friends, or maybe you never learned how to do it in a way that works. Maybe instead of bashing the methods that have created REAL residual income, you could just learn the skills that can enable you to add the most powerful leverage building technique in existence to your business.

I might lose some of my following for saying some of the things I said in this post, and if that’s the case, so be it, but I want you to know the truth. It’s time for the online community to wake up. If you’re not going to embrace reality, maybe it’s time to join a top-tier program and rip off strangers for the rest of your life.

I’m holding a new war-cry all of you. Talk to five people a day. If you have leads, great, but if you don’t, learn to prospect until you do. Learn to reach out, connect with people, and build relationships with people you haven’t met.

Don’t be an idiot and hang out in an elevator in the local shopping mall with a huge grin on your face and corny business cards, learn how to NETWORK. Isn’t what we’re doing to build relationships? I want you all to know the REAL marketing skills that will let you sponsor 40-50 people a month, but BEFORE you have them, you can build relationships right now. There’s a world of people who are hurting for change, who are trapped in a race of 9-5 slavery. Let’s go out and teach them the truth of economic freedom, and be a Hit-Man to the machine.

Can People Make Money For Free In Any MLM Business?

Some potential recruits ask if there is a free MLM, can you make money for free in any MLM business? When you are responding to this question, it is important to be honest and discuss the costs of starting an MLM business. There is no free MLM and requires an investment of both time and money if a person is going to succeed.

Starting an MLM business is not easy and is not a “get rich quick” scheme. The companies that suggest that money in an MLM business is easy and will begin making large amounts of money quickly are not being honest and the people who join these companies are often disillusioned and lose their investment. This is why it is important to research the parent company carefully before committing, the quality of products and reputation of the company will have a direct impact on you ability to make money and grow your business.

Most companies that offer business opportunities make their own products. Many of the companies who have been in business for several years produce products that are high quality and are unavailable through any source expect the small home business. But, there are also many companies that are popping up that have poor quality products or do not have a product that is sold at all. Some of these companies have very high prices for their MLM businesses and make it difficult for a small business owner to make a profit from the sales of products.

Checking on the reputation of the products that are being offered will be an important step when deciding on the parent company that you choose to work with. When you make your initial investment you should receive a kit and product information. Knowing what your investment is purchasing is very important and should have value.

The kit and products that are received should be, at a minimum, equal to your investment. The items included will include products, information and materials that can be sold and distributed to your potential recruits and customers. When a company does not offer tangible products and information for the investment that you are making it will be important to research the company carefully to make sure that they do offer a saleable product.

When you begin growing your business there will be a large amount of time required as well as your initial investment. The business you start will not have customers, contacts, and recruits provided. It will be necessary for you to find your customers and recruits which will initially take a lot of time.

A person who wants to take a more affordable approach to their marketing and advertising may find that using the free and affordable venues offered by the Internet will be a good way to start their business. Writing articles, creating Cost per action advertising, and blogs will be very affordable. When you begin adding team members, it will be necessary to include a method for having videos and web-cast meetings regularly for your team members to establish goals and provide needed training.

Making time for each of your recruits will help you to create a solid foundation of active recruits. When individuals feel they have a support network and that their up-line is concerned about their success, they will stay motivated and continue moving forward. Having a team of highly motivated team members will give you the momentum to grow your business and gain wealth that you want.

Part of maintaining momentum requires an investment of time in helping your team members achieve success. This requires that you spend one-on-one time with your recruits and provide extra training in areas where they may need assistance. Investing personal attention to your team members will not only help them to grow their businesses

The costs involved in growing a business is a combination of time and money. A person will not find a free MLM that will provide them with the kind of wealth that they want. The investment that you make initially will be returned and multiplied, but you will need to make an investment in your future success.

It is important to find out what the best MLM, how to analyze what opportunity is best for you are because there are literally thousands of opportunities and MLM companies out there that you will need to choose from. Each opportunity is sure to be enticing and will offer you several benefits and each MLM company will be claiming that they are the best and have best products/services and the most attractive compensation plan.

However, for those of you that really wish to know about best MLM, how to analyze what opportunity is best for you it is necessary to understand that many of the opportunities that you will come across and many of the companies that want you to join them are not the best. So, you need to know how to cut through the hype and smoke and find out the truth.

If you are looking for the most well paying MLM opportunities you will have to do a lot of research because with more than one thousand different companies to choose from you need to learn how to pick the genuine companies and also how to ignore the ones that are of no use to you.

Last but not least, when studying best MLM you must learn to analyze what opportunity is best for you and in this regard it is important that you go with a company in which you are offered the right kind of training and support.
