5 Strange Free Ways To Generate Fast Traffic

Generating traffic online is a pretty straight forward process. There are literally over 1000 ways to do it, yet most of us rely on a single method. Seriously, everyone seems to be relying on either search engine traffic or expensive pay per click ads. It’s NOT a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket, especially when it comes to traffic. So I wanted to talk about some of the traffic generation strategies I’ve personally found effective that you’ve probably never thought of. (Ok, if you’re an experienced marketer you might have come across a couple of these, but hopefully this article will open up your eyes to the potential they hold. I’m going to outline a couple of strange techniques, but also the obvious ones. The cool thing is that none of these strategies require an actual blog or website, or even any money!

1. Forum Posting

Yah, you can actually generate a crap load of traffic by simply making regular posts on a couple of forums. There are forums in absolutely EVERY niche on the planet. Whether you’re a Network Marketer, you’re into birds, carpets, sewing or you’re an insect enthusiast, there are literally forums for everything. A simple Google search will do the trick:

Just search: forum + “Your Keyword Here”

You’ll get a ton of results, you should really filter them by page rank and alexa ranking. You want to find the forums that are most active as otherwise you’ll be wasting your time. I wish I documented it, but a while ago I did a little forum marketing experiment. I posted 4 times a day in response to new threads and linked to my website in the signature. The results… me getting 50-100 daily visitors within 60 days. Not bad for 1 strange traffic generation strategy right?

2. Blog Commenting

No, I’m not talking about using blog commenting to build backlinks. I’m talking about commenting on blogs to generate direct traffic. Blog commenting has its place in the SEO world, and it’s also a fantastic way to build up residual traffic. All you have to do is find around 10 of the most popular blogs in your niche. Then on a daily or weekly basis leave 10-20 thoughtful comments on the latest posts. I’d say leave at least 10 per week and you should see a slight increase in traffic. Why bother with this supposedly obsolete traffic generation strategy?

Well, it’s not dead at all. It’s all in the comments…

If you leave an interesting 50-100 word comment on a post that’s destined to receive thousands of visitors, you may well “cash in” on 100 of them. People generally click on your name if you leave a really good comment resulting in free traffic. Also, it’s great for building up repeat visitors. People who read blog comments are generally “regulars”… and regulars are the people who’re most likely to “leach” onto another blog.

3. Guest Blogging

I was actually going to write a full article on guest blogging as it’s seriously powerful. When somebody first explained guest blogging to me, I told the guy he was insane. I mean, why on earth would anyone spend their time (possibly hours) to write a high quality blog post for someone else’s blog?

Well, as crazy as it sounds it’s probably the best way to put your website or blog on the map. So here’s what to do… you need to find blogs that accept guest bloggers. Not very many do, but generally the authority blogs in your niche will. So here’s how it works…. You write them an on-topic high quality article that will get published on their home page and shared with all of their subscribers. In return you’re allowed to link to your website.

If you manage to get a post published on a high page rank blog, then great you’ve gained an incredible backlink. Also, if the blog has an established readership, you’ll receive a small cut. Say the authority blogs in your niche all have over 100,000 monthly readers. Let’s say you find 10 that all accept your post. They go live, the blogs notify their 100,000+ readers about your posts and just 10% read them. That’s a total of 100,000, let’s say you lose 20,000 people during your post. So a total of 80,000 have read your post, liked it and then 10,000 of them click through to your website.

That’s a crap load of traffic and I’m telling you those figures aren’t that crazy. Best of all, you’ll gain a ton of repeat visitors. It’s email ad swaps, but better.

4. Article Marketing

Article Directories Yah, not really a strange traffic generation strategy, but I simply can’t not talk about it. As you should already know, you can write and submit articles to directories. Once approved, your article goes live on the directory and you’re allowed 2 links to your site/s in the author resource box. I know, this is oldest trick in the book. Anyway, all you have to do is target keywords in each article you write.

Go to the Google Keyword Tool, find a relevant keyword your target market would be searching and “sniper” it. Write an article and include the keyword in the title, description and throughout the article. Your article should rank in the search engines for the keyword resulting in free traffic. It’s a great way of generating traffic especially if you’re new to online marketing. There’s far too much to say about article marketing so you can read more about it here, and here.

5. Yahoo Answers

Yahoo Answers

Now this is a strategy that’s not very well known. The truth is that using Yahoo Answers is one of the best ways to generate fast traffic online. It’s basically a community of people who ask and answer each others questions. It’s a huge community and there are questions asked about pretty much everything. There are really two Yahoo Answers strategies I’ve personally used that worked wonders. First there is answering questions and linking to your site in the resources box.

You simply signup at Answers.Yahoo.com and log yourself in. You’ll be able to browse questions to answer. Type in a couple of keywords and you’ll find yourself some targeted questions. You’ll find thousands of “How To” questions you’ll be able to easily answer for instant traffic. Just give a really helpful answer and tell the asker that there’s more information @ your website.

You’re pretty much guaranteed the asker will visit your site and a couple of other users. I believe I used to get 10+ visitors per question answered. It takes literally 2 minutes to answer a question so 100 daily visitors should take you less than half an hour. Plus, Yahoo Answers rank like crazy! If there’s a popular search term in the question’s title, there’s a good chance it will rank in the search engines and receive hundreds if not thousands of monthly visits. (Too much info here, I’ll write a full post on Yahoo Answers as its really good stuff)

So those are just 5 strange traffic generation strategies you can get started with today for absolutely nothing!

In Prosperity,

David Wood

Once again, David, you prove why you've gotten to where you have. This isn't strategy just for strategy's sake, this is also putting real and thoughtful value into the world. I can only imagine that spending time being contemplative and helpful in answering questions and connecting to people has residual effects long after the blog post or the article. Become the go-to person and they will hunt you down :-) This is The Go-Giver in the web world.

The best way to get continued traffic is to actually provide useful information ;) It's not fast - but amazingly, it continues to work quite well regardless of what's going on.

Hi Dave, I make a killing leaving blog comments. It's easy to stick out because few take real time to leave a value-packed, thoughtful comment. My buddy Micah up above knows what time it is, of course ;) Add value. Make an impression wherever you are, whenever leaving a comment. People become impressed with your mindfulness and want to learn more. Forget about obsessing over the next backlink. Stay present and leave a value packed comment, and you can generate plenty of free, targeted traffic. Thanks for sharing your insight Dave. RB

Once again, it's the simple stuff that works best. Blog commenting has been a great source of direct traffic for me, as has posting articles. The yahoo answers idea is a new one on me, going to check that out right now :) One other method that has worked really well for me is making "how to" videos for youtube, and then linking back to my blog. The key for this is to have something on the blog that they will need to come and get in order to use the "how to". This can be anything from a link to a resource to a template of some kind. Thanks Dave!
