5 Simple But Deadly Link Building Strategies

Link Building StrategiesOk, so this article is going to cover 5 of the best link building strategies online. Link building is sort of a form of online marketing, but mostly used to raise search engine rankings. In search engine optimization (SEO), off page optimization is gradually becoming more and more important. By off page optimization, I mean building backlinks. Whether you like it or not, link building will either make or break your website. So I’m going to show you 5 of the best link building strategies you can use to explode your search engine rankings.

Before I begin, let me just explain why link building is so important and what it will do for your website. Basically, all Google cares about is link popularity. The more sites that link to yours, the higher it will rank in the search engines. The concept is very simple. The more links you get, the more Google will reward you. So here are five of the best link building strategies online.

1. Article Marketing

Now article marketing is a huge subject! It’s actually something im sort of famous for in my particular niche. So what do I mean by article marketing and how do you use it to build backlinks? Well, article marketing involves writing simple articles for directories like EzineArticles.com, ArticleBase.com & GoArticles.com.

Once approved, your articles go live on high page rank & authoritative article directories resulting in powerful backlinks for your website. At the bottom of your articles, you’re usually allowed to add an author resource box which can include around 2 outbound links. (this is where you place your anchor text linking to your website). Article Marketing is without a doubt, one of the most powerful link building strategies in existence. The downside is that it’s slightly overused by the Internet Marketing community… And when I say slightly I mean remarkably overused. It’s fascinating LOL

This means that that the power of article directory backlinks will slowly diminish over time. Why? Well, right now with the current Google Algorithm… People are “sponging” off of other site’s authority. What do I mean exactly? Well for example EzineArticles.com has over 9 million pages and over 4 million backlinks. Oh yeah, it’s also a page rank 6 domain. Remember that you get your own page on their website when you post an article. Meaning you get to sponge off of the authority of the entire website. Something else to think about….

You can almost automatically rank for keywords just by sponging off of the root domain authority of sites like EzineArticles. So what you do is target a different keyword in every article you write. Include the keyword in the title, description and a few times throughout the article. Combing that initial on page SEO with the domain authority of a site like EzineArticles, it’s actually enough to rank page 1 for a keyword and fast! What’s the point of writing for another site and ranking their pages? Well, it’s your content and you can use it to promote whatever you like. In fact, if you write a compelling author resource box, you can get as much as 50% of visitors to click through to your website. And that my friend, is the power of article marketing! Pretty cool stuff I know…

2. Web2.0 Link Building

Now this is a strategy that a lot of marketers don’t take advantage of. And… it’s probably thee most effective link building strategy ever. (if used correctly) So what is web2.0 link building and how can you use it? Well, as far as I know… a web2.0 site is a website that visitors can add to. When I say add to, I mean create their own pages. The web2.0 concept has actually been used to build some of the biggest sites on the net. With some good marketing and enough members, a 10 page web2.0 site can turn into a multi million paged million dollar website. (Hope this is making sense right now)

So what’s a few examples of popular web2.0 sites? Well here are some of the most popular and the ones that are best for link building. Actually, just changed my mind. I am going to give you the full list of high page rank web2.0 sites you can use to explode your rankings:

  1. Hubpages
  2. Zimbio
  3. Wikispaces
  4. Wetpaint
  5. WordPress
  6. Quizilla
  7. MSN Spaces
  8. Tripod
  9. Webs.com
  10. Vox.com
  11. LiveJournal
  12. Xanga
  13. Blog.com
  14. Ning
  15. Friendster
  16. Jimdo
  17. Zoho
  18. Gather
  19. OnSugar
  20. Blogetery

Ok, that’s probably all of the top web2.0 websites you can use to build quality backlinks. So how do you use them? Well, sort of the same concept as with article directories. You write some content, link to your website within the content and publish it on the web2.0 sites. It’s dead simple. You just create an account, and you’ll be able to go from there. Web2.0′s will allow you to add however much content you want. Just like article directories, you can also “sponge” off of the authority of web2.0 sites for almost instant top rankings. Using that list of sites, you’ll be able to rank for a lot of low-medium competition keywords… And If you really want to take it up a notch and rank for some high competition keywords, you need to mix up your strategy.

3. Social Bookmarking

Just a very quick word on social bookmarking. In all honestly, social bookmarks sort of suck. In terms of link power anyways. It’s been tested time and time again, they really don’t have much of an affect on your site’s rankings. So why am I mentioning them? Well, social bookmarking has it’s place in the SEO octagon. (a made up concept of mine which involves 8 SEO factors/link building strategies)

So what can you use social bookmarking for? Well, to get noticed by the search engines. When you social bookmark your site, you’ll have the search engine spiders all over it! That’s what it does. This will help you get your content indexed fast. While some people may disagree, do follow social bookmarking links are still links right? A link is a link in my book, and every link helps. Also, social bookmarking can attract natural links. Social bookmarking is social (hence the name) and will actually drive a ton of targeted traffic straight from the bookmarking sites. Resulting in exposure and natural links. (just happens sometimes)

Just to give you a few social bookmarking sites, checkout this social bookmarking sites list. It’s actually a random website I just found. In all honesty, I can’t be bothered to write out a list of the top 20+ bookmarking sites, so I linked to a great resource that’s already done for me. (See what I mean about natural backlinks, I just linked out to that dude’s website and gave him a totally free backlink. I even gave him the benefit of keyword rich anchor text)

4. Forum Backlinks

So this is a strategy that has also been abused pretty badly. However, it still works extremely well and I’ve personally used it to obtain crazy results. Im talking from 300+ to page 1 of Google in a matter of days after running a forum profile link building campaign. As you should already know, forums are huge. They are communities where people can sign up to openly answer/ask questions about anything they like.

Usually, at the bottom of your forum posts, you’ll be able to add a signature line where you’ll be able to add a couple of external links to your website. So every time you contribute to a forum, you’ll gain a targeted backlink. Very simple strategy, anyone can use it. Always, always go after backlinks from high PageRank websites. Go for high PR forums too!

Also, most forums have member profile pages. Just a simple profile page that shows a few user credentials including a website! These forum profile backlinks have been abused with bots. Cool thing… There’s software you can use to literally build MILLIONS of forum profile links, in a matter of days! I won’t mention any names but, if you happen to stumble across one of these bots, be careful how you use them. If you go blasting thousands of profile backlinks overnight, you’ll get sandboxed by the big G. Another last minute tip: build links on forums that are related to your niche!

5. Writing Press Releases

Press releases, press releases and more press releases. To this day, it shocks me how little marketers take advantage of press releases in their link building campaigns. Press release backlinks work! They work so well that I’ve seen a major increase in traffic and rankings after submitting just a couple of them. Why press releases? Well, press release sites are really authoritative. Also, press releases rank extremely well on Google. Unfortunately, press releases are a little different than other websites. They appear to have their own life span unlike any other form of website. As you should know, press releases are news articles. Simple articles releasing a little news to the world. So they seem to have a short ranking lifespan while the news is relevant.

Also… They can rank for seriously tough keywords in a matter of days. If you use the “sponging” approach, you’ll be able to use press releases to send a ton of laser targeted traffic straight to your website, all while obtaining quality backlinks. So basically, press release links are powerful and you need them. How do you write a press release and where do you submit it? Well, press releases are really simple. They are just like articles, but more factual. What’s newsworthy? Just about anything. Most people have no idea what to write about when in all honestly, doesn’t matter. Everything is newsworthy, we just want the links. With that being said, it’s a good idea to write and submit a press release every time something in your business changes. Again, im going to give a link to this guy, for putting together a great list of the top 11 press release sites, enjoy.

In Prosperity,

David Wood

Publishing your articles on sites like Ezinearticles and GoArticles is a great way to "presell" your readers before you send to some sort of promotional content on your site, and like you said it's a great way to get a good quality backlink.

I've been able to hit Google page one in only a few days using similar strategies. Press releases are about the only thing I haven't tried. Do you recommend paid or unpaid? Is there a difference?

Question about press releases: When writing one, would you write one about your website? For example, if I was going away for a week or something, would that qualify for a press release? Question about article marketing: I bought the 30 day trial of AMR and submitted 3 articles to literally heaps of websites, but had no increase of traffic from it. Could I be doing something wrong? Thanks :)
