3 Tips for Newbies About to Quit! I Wish I Knew this Earlier!
Where I’m Coming From
Hey guys, I’m writing this article to get a few things off my chest. I was recently contacted by my former up-line, who is also my best friend. He just visited my blog and was “shocked” at the negativity of my posts (sometimes keywords aren’t all fluff and I think he just read the teasers). I do admit that in some of my articles I vent my frustration with the strategies I was originally taught and they don’t paint a pretty picture of my past experience, but I call em’ like I see em’ (sorry). Then I got to thinking that maybe I didn’t try hard enough in my first mlm or maybe I didn’t listen close enough. In any case the sad reality remains the same; my experience with network marketing is not uncommon, in fact it’s a little too common. When I look back at the marketing strategies I started out with, I can’t stop thinking about the fact that 97% of network marketers fail. Most of the time networkers fail due to lack of leads (me) or lack of cash (also me), but I didn’t quit I moved forward and found another way.
I wish my friend could see that I’m not out to tear anyone down or rip on anyone’s company, I just want help people understand that they can use this huge pry-bar called the internet to help them solve both of the aforementioned problems. Don’t get me wrong, people still build thriving offline business like my friend, but the tactics he uses are difficult for most people to implement. The reason most people don’t succeed at network marketing with these tactics is that in order to get results you have to be an extremely ambitious person or have a substantial amount of influence or both. Or you can sign someone up who has a lot of influence and ambition because that would work too. Just to be fair about this I will mention that even if you’re looking at using the net to build your business you’ll still have to WORK to reach your goals. However, one of the cool things about the internet is that the work you do now can produce results for months or even years after you’ve done it.
The main thing I think my friend took issue with in my blog post was that I mentioned the lack of training I received in my last mlm, but I don’t fault him for that. He was just doing what he was told to do. His up-line and the company leaders have a system that they developed and it worked for them so naturally they teach that strategy to others.
Here are some strategies I wish I was told about when I first started! My friend’s company does not recommend building the business through the use of the internet, so if you’re in a company like that these tips are definitely for you. The funny thing is that it wasn’t until I took my biz online that I discovered these tactics.
- Bandit signs: One of the things that you can invest your money in are some simple 24”x18” signs that say something like, “Learn How To Make 10k a Month From Anywhere! Don’t Believe It? Don’t Call! 1-(XXX) XXX-XXXX”. Then you can put the inexpensive signs in some cool spots or in a places that a bandit would put them. Just make sure you check the restrictions in your town for placing such advertising (we don’t want anyone having run-ins with the law). Personally I’ve seen a bandit sign in my town that’s been up for 2 months and it’s on a major 4 lane street.
- Drop cards: Basically these are cards that look like folded money. All you do is order a bunch of drop cards with your info on the back then you just place them in high traffic areas like in a shopping mall or an airport. This is a fun strategy because you can sit back and watch people pick them up.
- The Drive by: This strategy involves getting some compelling cds about your opportunity and dropping them off at toll booths or coffee shops. What you do is make sure the person behind you is driving a fairly nice car. Then when you pull up to pay for your coffee or the toll or whatever you ask to pay for the person behind you. After you’ve paid for everything you politely ask the teller to hand your cd to the person behind you. Now you have a person who’s happy to receive your information and hey they might even join your business.
I hope you’ve found these tips useful. My only suggestion for the person just starting out would be to keep pressing forward, if you’re being taught strategies that just don’t work for you look for a different strategy. The one thing I’ve learned is that when it comes to marketing one size does not fit all.
