21 Tips For The Ultimate Blog Setup

Blog SetupStarting a blog can be seriously overwhelming. Domains, hosting, blogging platforms, permalinks and more. Creating the perfect blog setup takes lots of tweaking, testing and hard work. Back when I got started my blog sucked. The design was crappy, I didn’t know how to track anything and I could barely structure a blog post.

After a lot of learning, I managed to setup my first WordPress blog. It was using a free theme that was pretty awful, and I failed to change the permalink settings (they structure your blog URL’s). I left all the default pages live, hadn’t a clue what a plugin was and I started blogging about random crap nobody cared about. I tried to promote my blog a while after, but failed impeccably.

Once I got round to learning SEO and link building, nothing worked since I messed up my permalink settings. Anyway, the point is that you need help with your blog setup. Unfortunately it’s not a onetime thing. You’ll always need to update WordPress, your plugins, change your theme from time to time and on-site settings.

…I struggled for a while and over the years put together a list of tips for the ultimate blog setup:

  1. Have A Game Plan Before You Start
  2. Choose A Great Domain That’s “Brandable” And Easy To Remember
  3. Choose A Reliable Hosting Service (Hostgator is great)
  4. Install WordPress On Root Domain (Not Joomla or some other platform, WordPress is superior)

Fabulous icing on the cake David. This is great it just fills in all the gaps missing. It's sort of a question I used to ask at the very early stages of learning online and no-body used to reply and i started to feel like duh!!Should i be doin this or this or using this. It all makes so much more sense ... Thankyou David always appreciate your value.

David thanks for another fantastic article with tons of value. I just recently changed to a premium theme, Thesis, and I wish I had done that from the start. I have a few of tips you mention in place but will be working from here on out to implement the others that you recommend. Thank you.

D, This is easily one of the most powerful trainings on blogging that anyone can come by both paid and unpaid. It is often that when most folks are setting up their blogs they tend to forget some of the basics and end up having a blog that is much less powerful than what it could have been. I am creating a new blog right now for my business opportunity and will also be having my personal blog redone as well. This post is a fantastic reference point and I really appreciate you putting it out there my friend. Keep on rockin. J

No problem, be careful with Thesis. There are hundreds of options, takes a lot of tweaking before you get it right.
